Hello everyone.

I am reading through alot of new and old post and I have realized there are alot of medical professionals here on this board these days...... It is kind of cool to have that in common with so many of you. How many of you are medical professionals? I myself as many already know am a Registered Nurse. Have been one for 13 years now. I have experience in many fields from inpatient med surg, to OR but my favorite is the mental health field. I have most of my experience in this area. I work now on an outpatient basis with children and adolesents in foster care. I love it. Ok so who is next? What do you do? What area do you work in and how long have you done it?

how odd i work in a bakery i have have been so weight conscience and all i have ever done since surgery is work around FOOD.......but im controlling myself somewhat..... however i am a self medicator i am in recovery from drugs and alcohol 9 yrs sober..
so thats about it ........ i hope to hear from you all.....

Took early retirement in 2002 at age 55. Had 30 yrs in with 5 in Oncology and the last 25 as neonatal nurse. Miss my wee patients.

Stacy you are so funny.....CONGRATS on the 9 YEARS sober, that is such a great accomplishment. You work hard and it shows.....

Neonatal Nurse thats wonderful. I watched the nurses when my youngest son was born 2 mths early and you guys do an amazing job. Thanks for responding. Nurses are special people arent we lol.........

Hi ya Lisa yes I noticed the same thing. Me Im a LPN. Been working that field now for almost 10 years. Had a late start and went to college when I was 30. Im also a NRCMA. Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant. I took that in college after finishing my LPN because that field is rapidly devloping and will take over the LPN's one day. Its Just being proficent in the front office as well as the back. I acutally use both on a daily basis which is great. I have worked in Occupational Medicine. Seen alot there. Those Drs taught me about all I know. Worked ER. Sad Sad place to work. Had to leave that. Cardiology for a while, and Primary Care. Im currently work and stay with Otolaryngology. I always wanted to work in Peds however.... I had to think long and hard about that because of the love I have for kids. I know I would meet a child that had cancer or some horrific disease and It would break my heart so bad I would want to give it up.

I have spent my life taking care of people in some fashion or form. Its somthing I absolutly love to do. Howver somthing I know that I could not handle very well is Nursing Home work. After watching both of my parents die at early ages and taking care of them on a daily basis. My mother died with Breast cancer at 47 and my father with liver disease at 54.

I have taught college for the Medical Assistants program for a year and a half along with the pharmacy tech program and medical terminolgy for all the medical fields at the college. I found I love teaching if you can get a Dean at a college to understand the needs of Medical Students. I dont know if they ever will.

Well that is about it about me.

Mental Health00huh Lisa---I knew I liked you for some reason...

Well I am a RN myself---lets see now---over 20 years now---took a few years off when my Bipolar Disorder was severe enough to land me in the state hospital for a year---returned to nursing in 2002---psych field---what else--I work mainly with the forensic psych pts---those are the ones who are found not guilty by reason of insanity---violent crimes---they are court ordered to be in a security mental hospital---I work as a court liason/case worker---but also work part time for the local MH authority---I'm getting a little burnt out with this and have just applied to be the Executive Director of one of our states mental health consumer advocacy agencies---it is run strictly by mental health consumers---for those lay persons not in the mental health field---consumers means those people diagnosed with a severe mental illness ----such as myself

but I have worked so many areas---open heart intensive care---I even did traveling nursing for 5 yrs---man was that a blast---I've done rehab with head injury patients---even took care of Gary Busey when he had his motorcycle accident---Alabama has one of the leading rehab facilities in the country---Lakeshore foundation---home of the olympic wheelchair basketball team
I also did oncology for awhile in the 90's and had Eddie Kendrick--from the Temptations--as a patient here in Birmingham when he was dying with lung cancer
In my traveling days I went everywhere and did all kinds of nursing---everything except pediactrics---can't deal with sick kids---it kills me--

so Lisa---bless your cotton pickin heart honey---you are much better than me---I admire anyone who works with kids---Teachers included
