| How do get over cravings? Ok, I am 16 days out and lost 16 lbs. (why am I disappointed?) am drinking my water and eating breakfast and lunch well within reason...BUT...from dinner on, I am wanting to eat more. I generally don't but have had a tablespoon or 2 more than I should some eveings. I haven't got sick but I do feel like I swallowed a tennis ball and it got stuck mid-chest. Before WLS, my worse time was after work and into the evening. I just graze...please help me with suggestions. I want this to work, I want to lose weight and I want to get my eating NOW and in the FUTURE well under control. I am even going back to work one week earlier(next Monday) because I am so bored at home. Thanks in advance for all your help. You guys are terrific. |

Cut down the carbs. They always make you crave. When I keep mine low I don't crave anything.

I agree with JEANE 100 percent ...
i have learned alot about my PERSONAL cravings
and the only thing that helps is a DIET HIGH PROTEIN
and VERY lo in carb.
THATs what rids that out of control cravings/grazings for me
as well!
EAT more protein that will keep you fuller longer!
BE sure not to drink to soon after your meals so that
your water isnt pushing the food thru your pouch causeing the need to eat!
YOU CAN do it!
AND your doing simply fabulous! THIS surgery doesnt
repair our brains and we do have to work on that part.
FOR me councling helped me at 10 months out.

| All is true!
All are right colo. I found that out the hard way. I started eating higher carb foods recently due to stress, and I craved them more and more. Almost to the point of feeling like I was going to go crazy if I didn't have something. I felt it to be a real addiction. Honest! It sounds weird, but now I know how people with drinking probs must be like. NO weight gain, thank God, but stopped myself dead in my tracks. That is where I had to find my inner strength, and I did. I asked myself......no, told myself....mike, you stupid fool, do you want to end up right back where you were? I asked myself that literally right out loud. Something really clicked with me, and I am on the straight and narrow again.
As the girls have said, I, to, get few cravings now....very few. The lower the carbs, the fewer the cravings. VERY TRUE, INDEED! Hang in there kiddo.

HI there....Mrs Strawberry here....I always keep a pound of strawberries handy for emergenices. I also keep lite microwave popcorn around{ i know this is carbs but works for me} These two are a must in my house at all times. Also try to keep cucumbers. Now when i get a salty craving i grab the cucumbers and cut up and add a little salt. When i get the carb like craving i pop the popcorn and that works for me, and when i get the sweet cravings i throw a little equal or splenda on some strawberries and im good to go.....If you prepare yourself ahead of time for these situitaions then you are better apt to dealing with them. Am i perfect, far from it...however having the rigth amo around helps me alot. I do graze alot but i also keep nuts around so i can grab a handful if i need to, i try to keep fresh fruit....i find that if i eat smaller meals through the day, it helps me alot also , although i find that hard with the job and kids ...but it really helped alot early out. No need to have the 3 big meals a day like we are so conditioned to. Your supposed to eat when your hungry...so ifyour hungry before that dinner table is to be set, just have the right food to pop in your mouth! This is just what works best for me. As much as i would love to totally avoid carbs, well no wait i wouldnt want to totally not have them, i do enjoy them and dont want to deprive myself of that....i just try to make sure i have the right carbs around....anyway, seems to be working for me...good luck to you.

Everyone's given good advice about food itself, so here's mine.
Find something physical to do. Exercise, knitting, sewing, quilting, embroidery, painting, going out for a walk with the dog, working out at the gym(after your surgeon gives you the go ahead), house cleaning, gardening etc etc. Start that hobby that you always wanted to take up. Something that you have to concentrate your mind and hands, and make you sweat. Right at the point you are, you know that the craving is just in your head, not your pouch. So, as well as having emergency food on hand, develop a physical routine that will keep you busy, and help keep your mind off food. Whatever you choose to do, don't forget to have that bottle of water right by you.
