Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | OK I know we are suppose to avoid caffeine...and I have for about 3 montto hs now. Went from a 2 liter diet coke a day habit to NO caffeine at all. From what I understood from my doc its a stimulant and we shouldnt have it...and thats the reason I tell people why I dont drink it. They have said caffein aids in weight loss as it increases your heart rate...hence its found in alot of diet pills. Not that I want to have it again...I just want clear answers as to why I should not have it. |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Hi, First of all congratulations on your weight loss! I'm not an authority but I was told to avoid caffiene because it stimulates your appetite and because it is hard on your pouch. As far as it being in diet pills I think that they put it in because it helps to speed the ingredients into your system faster. I'm going to try to stay away from it as much as possible because I definately don't need to have my appetite stimulated! I was also told to stay away from anything with carbination as it can streach your pouch. It's coffee that I want but know that I still have to stay away from it for a while and when I do have some it will have to be decafeinated. I hope this helped and I'm sure that the Doc will answer you with a more official answer. Continued Good Luck - Jan

| Super Moderator | Caffeine is also a diuretic, increases your urine, which means it can cause dehydration. You know how easy it is for post ops to get dehydration as is, so better to avoid stuff that acts as diuretics, whatever they are.

| The girls are all right. I went for months without my coffee. I do drink coffee now, like it is going out of style. lol Then again, I am drinking alot of liquid now, whereas before, especially right after surgery, I found it hard to even get my reccomended daily amount needed. I was never a big soda drinker, so I was safe there. lol I can relate to you though, with the soda, but in my case, it was coffee. mike |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | I was the same way with sode pre op. I woke and had to have some, had it with every meal and in between. Nowday I have not taken one little sip of soda since surgery however i live on coffee as most of you already know. I know its not the best choice for me because i tend to forget to get all my water in some days but i am just not able to give it up. Well not willing that is i wont lie. For me DOC it is actually an appetite depressant since surgery. I know textbook its a stimulant but if i sip my coffee i dont feel hungry. And it stays that way for a while following. Best bet is if you dont drink it, dont start but its to late for me. Love my coffee..... Love ya LittleLisaMarie |
