Default The dreaded 6 pounds

Hi Everyone,
I am 7 months out and doing ok. No major issues, and doing well
with my water, food and exercise. I wasn't sure about getting a trainer, but now that I did, he keeps me accountable for getting in my exercise.
I was stunned to see I gained 6 lbs as I have continually lost weight since my surgery. Dr. Mel and I were hashing it out..and my feelings were "water weight." I don't know much about water retention other than other people have told me they have it and take water pills.
Since I was good on exercise and water I figured it was food. Again, I had my beloved watermelon-which in the past has caused me to
"stall" but I suspect it was water weight then. Additionally I have been addicted to chips the hospital has made for us. A local food manufacturer makes high protein foods we can buy at our option.
The chips-10 gr protein, 100 calories a pack..so nice and crunchy,
but I am thinking their sodium count is part of my problem. My chip addiction is short lived... I will have to give them up.
Yesterday I had lost the 6 lbs and today I see I am down 2 pounds.
So I am back on track. Yipee!!
A new year is starting for all the teachers- have a great year everyone; (parents, too!)

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Throw those 100 calorie "packs" away. My surgeon's nurse discussed these at a support group over a year ago, and said they really effect the RNY post op like a 200 calorie pack--not as good as you think. Wt training is likely to add some muscle mass. Gaining some muscle will likely either "stall" your wt loss progress or temporarily put on a couple of pounds. But this temporary wt gain will go away incoming weeks. I'd highly recommend support group attendance. You'll gain a lot of beneficial info at these mettings to help you on you journey. Good luck. Sounds like sodium was the culprit this time. Also be aware that with exeicising, developing muscles can temporarily retain water.
Anyhow, your weight will often bounce before disappearing for good.

Hey PW, I am one of those who use to take diuretics because of my water retention. Before surgery I could weigh up to 7 lbs more in the afternoon than what I had weighed in the morning! I'm no longer on the diuretics but still get a couple lb weight difference from morning to afternoon. (especially since my monthly visitor has come back since surgery!) I would stay away from the high sodium found in chips and a lot of other things. I'm glad you are back down the 6 lbs + the 2 additional pounds! Wishing you the best as you return to teaching! Hugs

I am excited to see you so vigilant about what you are eating to discover what the problem was. That is awesome. And since you shared I will know what to look for when the time comes for me. Thank you for sharing.

I am impressed with the personal trainer!!! I will probably have to stick with the husband as we have pretty much gone down to 1 income now. But I think he is getting better now.

So great on your weight loss!!!

MotoCo,
I hear you loud and clear. The trainer is an "expense." On one income probably impossible I am giving up my manicures and pedicures. Doesn't quite cover it but I am making an attempt. He does make me more accountable though.
Hope you are feeling better..every day you will see progress.

I fluctuate 5 to even 10 lbs every month. It's all water weight and is strongly influenced by my hormones and cycle. I have PCOS so it's quite obvious, but I do strongly recommend tracking your cycle versus your weight gain. It may give you a timeline to adjust your food/water intake. Hope it helps
