Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Ok guys, Here's the thing. I got depressed when I got my last Hemoglobin A1c count. I was so sure that I would have had my WLS by this time. Anyway my Mom had surgery, 2 brothers were diagnosed with cancer and I just caved in and didn't care. I quit coming to this board and participating in discussions ( if you haven't noticed), quit taking my glucose on a regluar basis, started eating carbs and now I am scared to even thinking about what my 3 month average must be. So I have realized something. I need this board and you guys to stay motivated especially when times get tough, but it was kind of like you were all moving on, doing great and I wasn't. I got left behind, but by my own doing. I am soooo behind now. I don't know when to try taking my A1c again and afraid of the disappointment of not getting there when I was so close with a 7.6. I need to be below 7. Today at work was one of the girl's birthdays. THere were 2 homemade cakes and they all went out to lunch. I did not eat cake and did not do the lunch thing. Do I feel good about this? No, because yesterday I ate 6 granola bars!!! 6!!! Is that rediculous or what? I'm a mess and the wrong kind of loser. I have got to get my act straight. HELP!!! Mattie |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Mattie, Please do not feel like a looser. We all get discuraged. I just found out that I am going to have to wait at least 6 weeks and go through two injections of red blood increaseing meds to even be considered for surgery. My first appointment with my doctors was March 22nd, and since I have been batteling iron problems. On think that has really helped me was coming here. I think you are right to reach out here. Sometimes its hard to come here and hears all the wows and see all the people getting there surgery and you wish it was you, but it is worth is to be able to talk to people who understand the wait and the frustration we are feeling. Please don't give up your fight. You are worth it! ![]()

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | OH MATTIE, HAVE I GOT GREAT NEWS THAT I HOPE WILL CHEER YOU UP. My last A1C was 10.3, before surgery. I was taking 35 units of 'N' insulin in the am and 35 Units at bedtime. I also was on a sliding scal throughout the day on 'R' insulin and took a couple of injections then. I ALSo was taking oral diabetes meds, Glypizide 2 tablets in the am and 2 tablets in the pm. (SIDE NOTE-I also was on 2 different blood Pressure meds taking both morning and night. My WLS was 3/27/07, I am now 5 weeks out. I was taken off both insulins, all the oral DM meds and now down to ONLY 1/2 tablet of BP meds and will probably be off that by months end. I can't wait till my next A1C. The day of my surgery my sugars were 284, I was so afraid they were going to cancel my surgery because they were so high. I was in the hospital from Tues-and went home Friday. By the time I went home, I was off the insulins and on only 1 tablet of the glypizide. This is AMAZING AND I COULDN'T BE HAPPIER. Hang in there,it is soooo worth it. I feel so good and my weight is falling off. Last Monday I weighed 205, on Friday I weighed 199...this Monday I weighed 193. THAT'S 12 LBS IN ONE WEEK. I can't wait till tomorrow(Friday) that is my weigh in day. I work at a hospital so I know the scales are regularly calibrated and correct. The best part of the surgery is getting my diabetes under control AND getting off so many meds. The weight loss, energy and smaller clothes is just a bonus. WHO KNEW? If I had know I was going to live this long I certainly would have taken better care of myself. BUT, I hear it's not too late. So let's hang in there together and get through to the losing side of life. Your A1C WILL come down...I PROMISE! Don't let a small or even a big setback bring you down nor make you stay away. We are here for you even in the lousey times...especially then. Take care and keep posting. |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Mattie, I have wondered were you have been ! Bless your heart. You have been through it. Im so sorry. Hey Mattie.....pick your self up brush the dust off and get back to it. I dont know much about diabetes I will admit that. That level your talking about is a 3 month average I think. You have to think about the time you was good. That has to count for somthing. Probally more than you realize. What you just went though is somthing that you probally always have. That is when you turned to food as your best friend. Sucks dont it. Im still preop..... and patched myself today. Im doing good with it but I need that cigarette just like you needed them 6 granola bars. I do know the first thing you have to do honey is stop pulling away from people even your coworkers. Im sure there were alot of them that shouldnt have had that piece of cake but they took it anways. You just made yourself feel so guilty about it. You GOTTA stop it ! LOL. Your a human being. A wonderful one from what I have see. We all have our faults. One of which for everyone here is that we love to eat.......TO MUCH !!! It sounds like you have mabye hit a small depression phaze. You have to tell your self its ok. You have fought for this a long time Mattie. Dont you give up now. The easiest person we disappoint in our lives are ourselfs. You have to think it took years to get your AC1 level high. Its not gonna take a binge that you had to raise it that much. Keep the faith Mattie I have it in you and im sure eveyone else does here. |

| Super Moderator | Awww, Mattie, most people tend to be their own worst critic. Just pick yourself up, and start where you left off, you'll do fine. Believe in yourself, and believe that the surgery is for you. It may take time for things to come together, but in the meanwhile, the patience you've cultivated is sure to be of a big help to you in the future. You will be given the gift when the Big Guy up above means it for you. In the meanwhile, always try to do your best, as you never know when things will come together. (((((((HUGS)))))) P.S. If you find yourself not wanting to post on the board, at least PM someone, anyone from here, that should help you a lot as well.

| Hey Mattie! I was wondering about you and was just thinking that at lunch time I would come on and post a "Where's Mattie" thread. You know my last A1C I was sticking to the diet and behaving and then came Easter! I ate pies, chocolate, jelly beans etc. And not just Easter I kept on eating the candy. I tried stopping and just succeeded in slowing it down. So I was sure my A1C which had been steadily rising no matter what I did was going to be higher. It wasn't. I actually got a 6.9 and got my surgery scheduled. That gave me such a boost that I have been watching it ever since. I am now on my two week pre op diet and doing well on it. I may have a little bigger portions, or like today I had one of those damn granola bars. But I am getting right back on. Next week I an determined to keep my carbs very low so nothing will go wrong at surgery time. I have even cut back on working extra hours because I was wearing myself out and when I'm tired I don't care what I eat, whatever is available goes in my mouth. Anyway the moral of my story is, "If I Can Do It, You Can Do It!" Feel free to PM me if you need to talk.
