I got my A1c today...5.5. I used to be on 4 meds. for diab. and haven't been on any since about 2 weeks after surgery. My levels before used to run as high as 12 and never under 9.
Also, the good chol. was 145. It used to be around 195.
This info. is for all you newbies or people thinking about taking the WLS step.
I asked for the report to be sent to me. I think I'll have it framed! lol

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Congratulations honey! I'm very happy for you!

My husband is type 2, he's on medication but not very committed! I really wish if he does something about it because it's horrible! He's losing his sight gradually! he has Glacouma as well! his Chol is high relatively!

He's also a carbzilla and cannot live w/o bread I don't know how to advice him?!?! his health is at the bottom of his priority list!

Kat you're my inspiration Love you a lot

Kat, that's wonderful.

For all of you out there, the resolution rate of diabetes with gastric bypass surgery runs somewhere around 80% or over. Now, it seems this is not only from the weightloss, but the mechanisms of hormonal control is altered by bypassing the duodenum, which leads to the lowering of the blood glucose level.

That's very interesting Doc. I knew that it had to be more then weight loss and food, since it was immediate when I went of most of the meds and 2 weeks for all of them. Very cool.

Sorry I missed this. Thanks Kat, very incouraging. Thanks Doc for the info too. I never knew why they said I could be off most of my diabetes meds before I left the hospital. Now it all makes sense.

Okay, I did forget to say, this is about type 2 diabetes and insulin resistance, which is the case for most of you.
Type 1 diabetes is a completely different story, due to its etiology/pathology, but if one is an overweight type 1 diabetic, then with weighloss, the required insulin doses will go down, in many cases dramatically, but insulin shots are still required.

Kat, That is amazing. I am so so happy for you. You are also encouraging to me. It's things like this that reaffirm my decision to do the WLS. To think that I too could be that healthy again. Thank you for sharing. That is why I love the board and all of you. I am going to get my A1c tested next week. I have not been real good so Keep your fingers crossed. Mattie
