Is the first thing that came to my mind.

As a tribute to CraigT who once was an amatuer sumo wrestler, and to the Summer Tournament that is being played here right now.
As of date, I see the total lost is 8799lb/2.2=3999kg.
Now, a sumo wrestler ranges in weight from around 180-120 kg (396lb-264lb), 130kg wrestler is considered light weight. So, lets say, 150kg averge.
3999/150=26.66
So, that's around 27 sumo wrestlers.
The highest ranking group is graded into 20 ranks, with 2 each, East and West. With the top 4 ranks, there can be more than 2 (or sometimes, none), so on an average, the cream of the crop, the most exciting matches are played by about 40 wrestlers. Lose 27 of them, and we're not going to be able to have a decent 2 week tournament.
