Yes, "5-day pouch test" is the proper term for what some call the pouch reset.
Read about it here. It places a serious stress on your system. It is only for folks who have strayed and want to get back on track. It's a conditioning exercise for your pouch, not a quick weight loss trick.
For a person coming back to the rules after a long absence and wanting to get a fresh start, this is an appropriate tool. To do it every few weeks to keep the loss alive is ridiculous!! And quite possibly dangerous. And definitely shows a total lack of understanding of what WLS is all about.
Back in the bad old days when we were out-of-control eating machines paying lip service to the thought of dieting, we did some stupid stuff. We started a diet, quit it, went on to something else ... and we did it quite often, looking for the "magic cure".
The behavior of that group as described in the first post is like that. WLS is a complete and total transformation of our dysfunctional relationship with food. It is a different way of living, with real rules that really work when given the chance. We don't need to go on fad diets any more because we've found something far, far better!
Doing a severe procedure, and trying to recruit a 2-month out newbie, is irresponsible. To begin with, this should only be done by someone well past the 1 year mark.
Kaye Bailey, the inventor of the 5-Day Pouch Test, says
"Weight loss is not the intent of the 5 Day Pouch Test, however, many who have tried this plan report a significant drop in weight. More importantly they celebrate a renewed sense of control over their pouch and eating habits and easily transition back to a healthy post-surgical weight loss way of eating."
If you are losing control of your pouch every few weeks, you have other, more serious issues that need to be addressed!! They sound like a group who enjoy "social dieting" and think this reminds them of the "good times" they used to have, back when they changed diets every month or so.
This is not for anyone following the rules!! There is no need for it and it gets in the way of doing the right things and making those good habits part of your core.
Don't even think about it!!
