Is there a Phsychology thread here?
I have PTSD, from abuse as a child, my weight gain I know was to protect myself, now I feel exposed, as the weight is coming off, cant hide anymore, i called my Dr. (Phsycholigist) and he will be fitting me in but was just wondering if anyone else is having, or has the same issues...

Thanks

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Hey Christine, I'm sorry that you have to deal with abuse issues. I'm at a point in my life after many years of counseling and a couple of hospitalizations that I don't mind being open about my past abuse if it will help someone else. I know exactly what you mean about the protective armor being striped away. Yes losing the weight makes us feel vulnerable and exposed and is very scary but it can also be empowering as you gain self confidence with the new you. Does it take away the emotional baggage... no, only hard work and most likely a lot of counseling will help you to heal.

I too have been diagnosed with PSTD (along with some other stuff) but want you to know that you can PM me any time. Hang in there & hugs

Thank you so much! I will.
You know it really sucks that a person can harm another person and that harm will effect the person who was abused for the rest of thier lives..so sad...
I will PM you...it is scary and thank you.

I don't know much about PSTD. I sure hope others can help you with it.
Good luck. I am sure you are not alone.

I'm glad to hear you've called your doc - it's also good that you're able to recognize the feeling of vulnerability. We've been dealing with similar stuff with one of our daughters - though she chose other ways to make herself 'undesirable' - it's taken years, but she's starting to get past it.

Hey Christine, same experiences here. And like Judi at this point in my life I deal with this head-on. Check in to EMDR Therapy. I found a qualified therapist a couple of years ago and it really did help...alot.
You can PM me too if you'd like.

yes, yes, yes!! my daughter's attachment therapists use EMDR as part of their therapy...

EMDR - Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing.... it allows both sides of your brain to reprocess the traumatic event if such a way that you can think about it without it re-traumatizing you... this is a very simplistic explanations, but it gives you some idea of what it does and how.

it's used a lot with police officers and fire fighters who have traumatizing experiences on the job.
