Ok young lady!! Congratulations on your decision to change your life...and you have! The days of instant gratification (like you may have gotten from half a box of oreos, like I did) are over. This is a long process, and the results will come! Maybe not quite like you imagine them, but they're already happening. You've put you body into shock, so you may feel a lot of things over the next year or so- tired, mad, helpless, tired, hungry, thirsty, tired . Try to recognize this not as depression but the emotions caused by the changes you've begun to put into place. Nice work on your moving, follow your rules, and try to stay off that scale as a means to validate what you've done. Relax, get the rest you need and visit often. This WILL work!!

i will try my best to keep on keeping on, are there any tricks or tips to keeping it off my mind? or do i just have to power through it and be strong?

Sometimes it's one minute, one hour, one day at a time. I will say that if your feelings are overwhelming and you think you're needing to speak with a professional, you should do so. I think you'll have lots of different feelings ongoing- you have lots going on, and as you drop weight, all that excess fat has a lot of estrogen in it. Also, you cycle can get a bit screwy. Let you mind rest a bit while you body tries to heal. Slow, steady, you have a lot ahead of you.

| Welcome to RR and congrats on your surgery!
I'm in agreement with what NR says so I won't be repetitive but I do have one more thought. Have you check your area for wls support groups? Does your surgeons program have one? This forum is wonderful for support but it's also nice to meet others in person who are going through the same things. Real hugs feel so much better than cyber hug sometimes.
Again welcome and hugs. |

I agree with the others - this is a marathon, not a sprint and you're body is going through HUGE changes! please reach out to a professional if you feel that you are depressed. You'll get oodles of support here, but having a professional that you can speak to face to face is a good thing too!

Welcome to the RR family. Although I haven't had my surgery yet, from what I've read here emotional roller coaster is normal after WLS...something to do with hormones trying to find their place. It's only been 2 weeks. Don't let your mind trick you into believing the surgery didn't work because it did. You will lose the weight...before you know it the weight will begin to just melt off. I've read many success stories and also personally know people who have had the surgery and they look great.
Remember, you didn't gain it over night and you won't lose it over night, but you will lose it. Take it one day at a time, stay positive, keep reading, and asking questions as well sharing....we're all here for you....good luck and hang in there...know that you're not alone by any means.

Welcome. You are right. The support here is terrific. You are doing just fine and will be so surprised with your progress as soon as your body calms down. Hang in there. It will happen. Ask lots of questions. And please, let us know how you are doing as you progress.

Welcome to the board, thank you for joining us.
Congratulations on joining the Losers' Bench.
(((((HUGS))))) May your journey go well.
You're only 2 weeks out of surgery. Your body is still recovering form the major surgery you just had. You had your insides cut and rearranged. It's going to take time for the swollen areas around the staples get better, and merge completely. The functions need to be adjusted and realigned as well. It's quite normal not to feel definite changes until you are at least 2-3 months out. Until then, just patiently keep on doing what your surgeon and his staff have instructed you to.
Also, if the blues really seem to have gotten you, don't hesitate to enlist the help of pros.

I will admit that for the first few weeks after surgery I thought I had made a huge mistake. I understand where you are coming from. The surgery is a life changing event and it takes some getting used to. Now I'm thrilled that I had the surgery. It's the best thing I've ever done for myself. I hope that you are just going through the short phase I went through and before you know it you'll be on the other side telling someone else that it's hard at first, but totally worth it.
