I find myself struggling with food, I know everyone will say keep trying it gets better but it is not getting better and I am beginning to worry. My whole daily intake consists of pretty much this all day 30oz of liquid (my surgeon wants 48) 1 string cheese 1/2 yogurt 1/2 choc. pudding Eating is a burden, plus I am afraid of dumping and getting sick and everything else. ![]() I am 2 days shy of being one month post op, I don't want my weight loss to stall because I am not eating enough calories. ![]() Yesterday, I attempted to eat some homemade veggie soup and had a small piece of soup meat stuck and ended up so that was it for me attempting to eat the rest of the day.Suggestions would be appreciated. Roz

Awww, ((((((HUGS)))))) Take things slowly, relax, I think you are doing fine, and not to worry. Your pouch is still healing, and it takes around 3 months to heal completely, so it's still swollen inside. No wonder you are having trouble with food. Since you're one month date is coming up, are you going to see your surgeon for a follow up? If so, discuss this with him, and your nutritionist, if you have one. If they tell you you're doing fine, I'm sure you'll be able to relax, feel better, and that should make eating a tad easier for you. So, take a deep breath, and take it one day at a time.

HI ROZ!!! first off ((((HUG))))) and the first months are very trying times getting the hang of things... but do your best to not be afraid. YOU will be fine. AND your surgeon needs to know how foods sit with u as the way you react sometimes informs of a complication so its important to try. I guess my slightest concern is your protein...is that chocolate pudding at least a PROTEIN PUDDING???? i used the stallone puddings early out being they had 14 grams of protein which is our main focus. EATING early out were u are is eating to survive not cause your hungry or needing to eat. YOU are eating for survival just now so do the best you can!!! I honestly feel if you supplemented in at this early stage 2 protein shakes in your day you would be doing much better. PLEASe try to shop the estore on the site here or local stores to find one thats palateable for you. WEATHER you have to add sugar free syrup flavors by divinichi, a banana, or other things to make them taste good it would help. ITs only a suggestion but i know 1 month out my eating was proly like this: BREAKFAST: 3 ounces cottage cheese SNACK: EAS CARB CONTROL PROTEIN SHAKE (ready made) took long time and usually got about 3/4 finished over time...... LUNCH: chicken salad w/ lo fat mayo (mostly chicken cooked to a very moist consistency, hard boiled egg, lo fat mayo very little celery and dash of green onion) or eggsalad..... SNACK: NECTAR fuzzy naval protein drink DINNER: grotons fish fillet, noodless lasagna (lo fat ricotta cheese, red sauce and mozzerella cheese), pintos and cheese, chile, taco meat, meat sauce w/ mozzerella cheese on it (proly only about 3 ounces) HOPE this helps....relax and find a protein shake might help you with your fluid counts and you will feel your not going into any starvation modes. FEEL free to PM me if you need more infomation on foods early out! ITS a try try and try thing but dont be afriad!!!!!YOU have to learn how to work this early out. (((HUG))))

Thanks DocSanae and Lisa, I guess my problem is I am so paranoid about dumping etc that I just don't eat then I read how people who are at the same stage as me are eating 3-4 small meals and I am like I am not eating anything. Lisa I am going to take some of your suggestions for chicken salad. Doc I called my nut. and I am waiting for a call back. I take so long with the protein shakes that I stopped drinking them but I will start again. I just don't want my body to go into starvation mode and hold on to everything that I eat. Roz

Every week well get easier to balance things. EARLY out its okay to use the protein drinks to get the protein in ...but eventually its important for the new pouch to learn how to break down and process regular proteins. YOUR still very early out and you will get that hang of it. JUST listen to your pouch and all will be fine....!!!CHEW CHEW CHEW and eat slowly..... PERHAPS pour your protein shake into small bathroom cup sized dixie cups so the amount doesnt seem as over whelming for you and refill it hourly......that might help... hugs

Rozzy, I'm right there with you and i promise it DOES get better. Ask your dr first but try the campbell's cream soups. They have the low fat variety. Cream of mushroom, cream of chicken. Those helped me out BIG TIME when i thought i was never gonna be able to get all i was supposed to during the day. Broths/ soups count towards your fluid intake also. Just think "soft and moist". Chicken salad, scrambled egg diluted with skim milk, and puree (YUCK) help your stomach adjust. Even if all you can stomach is a spoonful an hour, try that. You'll get there. I PROMISE YOU. **Also PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE drink your shakes.** You need the protein to help you heal. The sooner you heal the better your pouch will feel with "food" in it. Make a smaller shake, like maybe 4 oz so looking at that HUGE glass isnat so overwhelming. I swear to you i was just there a week or so ago. and i am eating real food; right now actually lol! (lunchtime here). it will get better i promise. if you want you can email or pm me whenever you like being that our dates are so close maybe we can exchange ideas. a few of us meet on msn or yahoo occasionally to talk when we need support or have a tough day. let me know if your interested.
