Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | I came home on, Friday, June 1st after gastric bypass surgery--- I don't know if this has happened to anyone out there, but: I have not been able to get descent sleep since I woke up from surgery. I just take little cat naps throughout the night and day. I had laproscopic surgery, and been in a medium amount of pain and know that sleep will help me recover and heal better------if I could get some!! Any advice would be helpful!!!!!!

Well, first off WELCOME HOME and congratulations on joining us on the losers bench!!!! As for sleep, I got NONE while in the hosptial. As soon as I got home i settled down, took some of whatever they gave me for pain, re-wrapped my binder extra tight I knocked right out lol! Once you relax and dont worry that something will happen ( i was PARANOID when i first got home) you'll catch up on the sleep. Also if you arent already, you might want to consider propping yourself up. A lot of the "old timers" on here said they had to sleep in a recliner or on the the sofa to be comfy. I went right into my bed lol! Again, welcome home. ANd if you have any questions about anything post them. no question is stupid; especially when you've just come home. Sweet dreams! |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Thanks kenyar. It's nice to hear I'm not the "only one"---I can't wait to catch up on that sleep! lol Oh, you mentioned you had a binder----I didn't get one of those, that actually would be helpful , I keep putting a pillow on my stomach when sitting or laying. Well, I have my two week check-up on June 12th--hopefully, all will heal well!

OH boy well i didnt sleep at all in the hospitol!!!! because the i guess i had undiagnosed sleep apnea that my pulmonary guy missed. SO i kept setting off the alarms and got now rest. THEY tried to give me a generic CPAP but nope that wasnt gonna happen it didnt work for me post op that way....the air was to much i felt they were suffocating me.... then once home laying down in bed to sleep took me 2 to three nights before i could. I had to sit in a chair (wished i had a recliner).... just wasnt able to lay flat a bit ...but each day got better and eventually i got passed that. ONCE i could lay flat i used alot of pillows to prop my GUT...i carried all my weight in my tummy so it hurt to turn alot! hang in there hugs and welcome to the looseing side

NO BINDER??? WOW. It kind of looks like a HUGE ace bandage but goes around your middle area kind of like a girdle. SAVED ME. It kept me stiff and reduced my fears of rolling over and hurting myself etc. Maybe its something you can order from somewhere? I am not really sure. OH YOU'RE HERE IN CT?? Cool. If you ever have any questions, email ,im, PM whatever you like. I am still sort of new to this, but the first month is still fresh in my mind so whatever i can help with I will. I had some trouble sleeping, but besides the roxicet that I was taking, I would sip on some sleepy time tea right before bedtime! Helped.

Welcome home Lanie! I am glad to hear that you are doing well, for the most part. For me, I had that similar thing with me. I do believe though, that it was the curiosity, the unknowing, the anticipation, the wanting to see the weight just melt off right before my eyes, everything combined. Not to mention, the excitement. I knew my life was going to change dramtically from what I had just underwent. I assure you that you will catch up on all that sleep you are missing. Give it a little time. Let your new life begin, and take it one day at a time. Being paranoid about everything, especially in the very beginning, is very very normal. You will be another success story, I am sure. Hope to get to know you a bit better in the upcoming posts you are going to be making. mike |

Welcome back, congratulations on joining the Loser's Bench. Aww, sorry to hear you can't sleep much yet, but a lot of post ops have had a hard time the week after surgery. Just take things easy as much as you can, and don't fret about not getting sleep. It will come as your body starts settling down. ((((((((HUGS)))))))) May your journey go well.

Congrats and welcome home! Sleeping was hard for me espically because I am a stomach sleeper so I hate when I have abdominal surgery and have to sleep on my back. It gets better and easier with time. However I still have alot of sleeping issues this far out too. I cant sleep through a night without waking at about 2-3am and then have a difficult time falling back asleep. The only thing that helps me is my benadryl. Just a whole new way of living post op and you know what I Cant complain, it beats waking up after a full night of sleep with aching bones and numb hands!!!!!!! Congrats again on the start of your new journey and new life. ![]() LittleLisaMarie |
