Weight Loss Method Aitkens | I don't really see any posts talking about support from husbands and wives of the people who have had the surgery. I was just wondering for those of you who are married, how the other half is as far as being supportive and how things have changed for the good or bad since you have lost weight.

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Well I had some hesitatin from my husband at first going thru the beginnign of my joureney. But then I told him that this was somethign I really wanted to do and I was ready. He was so so with it. Well now he is a HUGE supporter of me. About 3 or 4 weeks after my surgery he had to go away for the weekend and he left me a card with a long note in there and said how proud he was of me for making this change and he has realized that its been hard on me and its a huge life comittment and etc.....It was amazing what he wrote in teh card. I told him it was like a Hallmark getting card. So since the surgery he has been wonderful. I think part of it was that he saw alot of negative stuff in articles and on TV and etc.... I think it freaked him out. Now my mom was a huge supporter for me since Ive started my journey back last August. Well then it got closer and closer to surgery time and she changed her tune completley. She really pushed for me to not have it done. I also think she got scared like my husband and the closer it got her nerves were getting to her. So then my dad stepped in and spoke his 2 cents and told me that I needed to do what was best for myself and my health and if my doctor and I both thought that this surgery was good for me then I would be doing the right thing. So he was a surprise supporter and has been since about 2 weeks before my surgery. He sends me emails and cards in the mail and is very incouraging to me. |

| Super Moderator | There is a section called Family and Loved Ones. If you read some of the older threads, there are a number of references to support from partners, so if you've read only the most recent ones, I suggest you start from the oldest threads and work up to the more recent ones. Hope it will give you some insight.

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | I will just add on this thread that it took my hubby alot of adjusting. I gather he had to learn to deal early out with looseing his eating partner. I guess alot of our gatherings for me and him were over meals. We both work and order in alot...those first months post op food had no importance to me anymore and i had become very picky. He hated cooking (yes my hubby cooks the dinners being i work till dinner hour) makeing big meals to just go in the garbage. HE didnt like me eating from baby food bowls but thats all i could eat. OVER time things smoothed out but like me learning he had to adjust. I had and still do have issues with leftover foods so i wouldnt eat things the next day. He has learned to deal iwth things but i also can eat a little more now. SO they learn to adjust. AND nevermind the insecurities that our new bodies bring on. OF course they all think we are doing this to leave them. SO issues there stirr up as well. ONLY time shows thats not what the surgery was for and things get better. JUST my experience.... now on the other hand he can also be my best supporter..when he sees a new sugar free energy drink in a flavor i might like he brings him home. HE knows i watch sugars and carbs so in the other way he can be suportive as well!
