-did You Tell Anyone You Were Having The Surgery?
-when People Notice You Are Losing Weight Quickly And They Say How Are You Doing It, What Did You Say?
-SOME FRIENDS MIGHT WONDER WHY IM GOING INTO THE HOSPITAL
I Didnt Want To Tell Anyone Not Even My Family But My Husband Kind Of Leaked It To The Family! I Guess They Have A Right To Know. Thank God They Are Pretty Supportive About It, My Sister Thinks Im Crazy But Still A Bit Supportive. I Havent Told Any Friends But One.
How Do I Approach This When People Start Asking Questions On My very Quick Weight Loss? Thinking I Took The Easy Way Out Cause They Dont Understand Our Situation With Obesity.
Thank God I Dont Work So Not Many People Will Have To See Me Eat And Ask 50 Questions!!!

-did You Tell Anyone You Were Having The Surgery? Yes, initially only a few friends and work and immediate family. but this past week i have told more people at work because they are questioning my loss and how/ what i eat etc. and i really dont mind talking about it.
-when People Notice You Are Losing Weight Quickly And They Say How Are You Doing It, What Did You Say? I said today as an example, I had surgery. I dont go any further than that unless they ask what kind or what have you and thankfully this woman i was speaking with didnt ask.

Thank God I Dont Work So Not Many People Will Have To See Me Eat And Ask 50 Questions!!! | In terms of the weight loss, people see me here everyday. yes they noticed when i returned to work a month later and i'd lost 20 lbs or something like that, but being that they see me everyday, they dont really notice unless you are away for a while or when you lose your next "big chunk". It will all be up to you and hopefully by the time people notice and start asking you will have you head wrapped around it. i didnt. i was not prepared for it when i returned to work. but its ok now. i have sort of eased into it. its tough eating the lounge but i am usually surrounded by friends which shields me from onlookers. but yes people will ask, ESPECIALLY catty office women lol! and those are the ones i lie to.... In the end you have to do what you are comfortable with and tell who you feel comfortable telling. if you are unsure roght now, wait til later. theres nothng in the rules that says you have to tell everyone you know right now. wait til your ready. dont stress over this stuff. figuring out what to eat and how often will be stressful enough lol! Hope this helps some.

My surgery is scheduled for June 25th and I am so happy & excited that I have told everyone. LOL. I guess because I don't want people feeling awkward if I meet them in the grocery store or someplace. I live in a small town. So I am telling them very proudly up front with the utmost confidence. So they will get the impression this was a big decision and I am Ok with it and so should they be. And it is worth it to me to go through the "BIG ORDEAl" to get "HEALTHIER". I have told my family. Some support it and some don't. But I do not waver in front of them and again so they will know I am confident in my decision.
If people don't know I have had it and ask about my rapid weight loss afterward I will respond the same way. Truthfully and proud.
It is kind of like when people ask where I met my wonderful husband (I say this because people are always telling me how wonderful he is and I agree). We met 5 years ago after he was married for 33 years and myself for 28 years. Both our spouses left us , mine for someone else 12 yrs ago, and his for about the same reason 7 years ago. He lived 100 miles away in San Antonio and I proudly tell them "I MET HIM ON THE INTERNET", which I did, and then I say "God helped us find each other through new technology. Aren't we blessed?"
Well we are blessed with new technology because God gave us such intelligent and skilled Dr.s that help us have a healthier life. I am not ashamed. Nor should anyone of us be. BE PROUD.
Sorry for the thesis. It is something I have wanted to say quite often when I hear the same questions posed as you ask. So now I have. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to do it.. Mattie

I have told people that I am having it. I work in a bookstore, as there one and only accountant. I will be very odvious when I am out. My mom is going to come in and work for me. The owners of the store are very supportive of me and so is everyone I come into contact with. I think that comes with working around very educated people. (not that you are not) My other close friends have seen what I have gone through over the years with might weight and know that I am doing this not to be skinny but healthy.
That is how you have to look at this. We are never going to be skinny people, we just want to make it up a flight of stairs with out stoping 4 times. This is something you need to deside who you will and will not tell. They are going to see the weight loss no matter what. I hope you can feel comfortable enough to spreed the good news of your good improved health.

Edie I want to apologize again for me not listening to your first post. I am sorry. Honey Im pre-op. It mainly is gonna depend on when you want to tell someone and what you want to tell them? Its gonna be hard perhaps but exciting to. I agree with ANNA on everything she said. You will find you way with this Im sure. I kicked it around to not wanting it told but....I go so excited and caught up in it....... I just had to spill the beans. LOL. Besides its much easier than explaining a new crash diet to someone ! LOL Take care again Im sorry i didn't give your first post more attention than I did. Take care

I told absolutely no one I was having the surgery including my job and co-workers.This is such a personal choice and people have strong opinions about over weight people one of them being laziness so it just feeds right into negative thinking people to say your taking the easy way out why cant you do it the regular way. I know you cant live your life worrying about what people think or say about you, But I only now recently began to tell my immediate family members and only one of my friends. The rest will have to look and wonder,I guess I have a little Star Jones in Me Hah Hah

We have a forum called Family and Loved Ones. Many of the threads and posts broaching on this subject are posted there, so I hope you will check them out.
This thread also probably will get more attention there, so I will take the liberty of moving this thread there after a few days here in Coffee Talk, as many threads go up in Coffee Talk daily, and can get buried easily.
Who you tell and what is a big concern for everyone, but the ultimate weapon is to be proud of yourself and the steps you are taking to regain control of your health, and through your health, your life, and also be honest about how you are doing it, and all the work you need to put into it. Whatever you choose, in the end, things will fall into place of its own accord.

as for when i lost the weight i did and answered as i felt fit...
i mean its not an easy way out which you will learn.
FOR some people i said im eating right and exceriseing ......

Edie, it is such a personal choice. I chose to only tell family at first, that was even scary as I did not want any negative vibes, but they finally came to terms with my decision. As for co-workers, I told them after the surgery. I have some who never ask me a thing, and others who are very curious. I share my experiences, and let them know it is by no means the easy way out, it is just another option. Since learning of my surgery another co-worker has undergone surgery and is doing well. So, for me, it has turned out to be a positive experience... Of course, I get all the questions about what I can and can't eat, but for the most part I eat what everyone else eats, just less, and if it has sugar, perhaps none, or just a nibble. They have learned that I can eat what they eat, just in smaller portions. At first, I don't think anyone was noticing the weightloss, but now it is noticeable (235 down to 140). But for those new employees who didn't know me before, they are shocked when they learn I had WLS, and I do get the comments of WOW, you don't look like you had surgery. I just say precisely, it worked!!!
Good luck, with whatever you decide, I know it is a very personal choice. Jody

you certainly have the right to tell NO one but who you choose and to ASK them to NOT share that information with anyone.
IF you do share the information then just be prepared knowing that some with give you great support and others will be very critical of your choice.
---it's really what YOU feel most comfortable with doing and how you feel about people knowing your personal business.
what I do know that a lot of times some of the people who you think will be great supporters ARE up to a point. Then when you actually ARE losing a LOT of weight they get uncomfortable with it and try and sabotage..I still don't get that part.
----you are doing this surgery for YOU for YOUR health...no one else's it's about YOU and YOUR body alone..no one else...just remember that when making the decision.
---you'll make the BEST one for you I know! {{{{hugs}}}
