Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | I am new here. I found this forum through my searching online for even more information on the gastric bypass surgery. I am 43 years old, happily married to a great guy who is being very supportive of my surgery. I have been overweight most of my adult life. I live in Central/Western Massachusetts. I currently weight 239...which is more than double the weight my 5' frame should have on it. I have gone through the pre-surgery groups, behavorial and nutritional appointments and I decided today (at my surgeon meeting) to do the gastric bypass versus the lap band. I come from a family with major medical problems...diabetes, high blood pressure, heart problems, cancer, high cholesterol and of course, weight problems. My future has been mapped out for me...until I decided to do something about it. I am tired of acid reflux, asthma, sleep apnea and sore knees, etc. I am nervous as all get out and scared too. I am waiting for the insurance approval (which my surgeon says should be no problem) and then getting the surgery date. Since I am doing it using some of my vacation, I will not be doing the surgery until October. So, I found this forum to help me keep things in perspective and see what's coming up and to find support (other than my husband's -which I am thankful for!). So, hello!

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Thank you for the warm welcome! I have to admit, I am scared about the complications, but then again, it would be almost the same if I was undergoing any surgery! I've never had major surgery before (I know I am lucky!)...so the thought of having incisions and the pain afterwards isn't that wonderful. How long did it take for everyone to get back to the work. I know it depends upon what kind of work you do. I work at a Credit Union, so that doesn't involve as much as some jobs...but I work as a teller one week and a MSR the next, so I stand alot on one week and sit the next. Could I go back within 2 weeks and be able to do the MSR for the next two or is telling my work that the whole month out is more logical? Give me your opinions, please?

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | I am an account service supervisor at a credit union My dcotor wanted me home a minimum of 3 weeks. I took 4 1/2 and by that point i WANTED to go back because I needed for things to be normal. It all depends on how well you handle pain, if you have pain, and when you are ready. most people have taken 3-5 weeks to be able to manage comfortably at work. I;d say wait and see. I was very uncomfrtable sitting upright at first. but then i was uncomfrtable standing/ rising from sitting. it all depends. |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Welcome to the board, you will get a load of info on here. Everyone is different as far as their recovery goes, my doc allows you to begin driving as soon as you are no longer on pain medication. I had my surgery on a Monday, no pain released on a Wed., no pain, never took any pain medication once home. Drove to Church on Sunday and back to work on Monday. That was 2 months ago never had a down day and never regretted it. Good Luck Roz

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Hi welcome to the board. I was a lot like roz I had no problems with pain from surgery .I had surgery on a Thursday was sent home on Saturday driving the next day Sunday but had to wait a minimum of two weeks before going back to work Dr's orders I feel I could have gone back to work that Monday if doc would have allowed me. I also took no pain medicine as there was no pain. I will say that I struggled with my energy level though. At times I still do. I work as a civilian army recruiter by the way.
