Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass |  approved I just got my mail and there was a letter from my insurance company and they approved my surgery!!!! Now I am nervous  . I do have a question though, my surgeon wants me to get a upper GI. When I had my upper endoscopy they found a hyatel hernia(sp). I am assuming this is why he wants the upper GI. Will the hernia endanger my surgery?

| Super Moderator  | Congratulations on your approval, waiting to hear your date. I don't think the hernia itself will endanger your surgery, but your surgeon will probably do a repair along with the surgery because if it isn't repaired, then it means that your pouch will slide up into your chest cavity through the opening in the diaphragm. Also, hiatal hernia makes acid reflux worse, so another reason to get the repair done. ((((((HUGS)))) May your journey go well.

I haven't had any type of problems before, I think he just wants to know as much about my health as possible. I think it is their way of insuring that don't get surprised by something and this way they will know they need to fix it while they are in there and save us another surgery later on.

| Great News! You must feel like you are on top of the world right now, and rightly so. I remember when I got my papers in the mail. I was high for the rest of the day. Just like you though, nervous, a bit scared, but mostly excited. Hang in there, it only gets better from here on out. As far as the hernia goes, I really don't think it will influence anything, but of course, you will be talking to the ol' doc about it. Just remember to do what he says.
