I have no clue. I had all types of ultrasound stuff too. I took it as if they were trying tomake sure all bases were clear. Not quite sure what they were looking for though...

They will do chest X-rays if your over a certian age like 45 or if you have ever smoked. Its just routine. They want to make sure you healthy enough to undergo surgery. Same as for the EKG. Dont be worried about it its just protacol.

I had to have a chest xray for my knee surgery. I think Lisa is right, it is pretty much standard any more for any type of surgery.

I asked my friend because I couldnt remember. She said its to check for clear lungs and is standard but they pay extra attention to them for people with breathing problems ( i.e. asthmatics) or smokers....makes sense I guess lol! I was both. I'm glad they checked

They are also looking for gall stones. If you've got stones, they will remove your gallbladder while they are in there.

With a routine pre-op chest x-ray, the things checked are:
1) lungs--no indication of infection, collapse, accumilation of water, lesions, adhesion, bulla, pneumothorax
2) trachea--deviation, width
3) heart--enlarged or not, indication of heart disease from the shape
4) aorta--calicification, torsion, anerurysm
5) diaphragm--elevation which sometimes indicates paralysis
6) ribs--fractures, disfigurations
7) spine--fractures, disfigurations
8) collar bones--fractures, disfigurations
9) scapula--fractures, disfigurations
Not that every single one of them will actually affect the surgery, some do, some don't, but that's what we look for with chest x-rays. Some stuff, of course have special ways of taking the x-rays for diagnosis, like the bones, but we can still tell something.
