Default Lesson learned the hard way

Hey I am back to tell you all ..........Boy talk about living and learning. Monday's have not been good for me. You know about last week's Monday but this Monday I pulled a "stupid" stunt. I had been constipated for about 3 days and did not have the liquid dulcolax (sp??) Rx filled yet. So I decided that since they gave me Magnesium Citrate to drink before surgery for bowel cleaning I would just drink a few sips of that. OMG!!!! The pain was immediately horrific. Like acid being puured on raw meat. I felt it go all the way through like a fire and then cramping. I ended up with diarreah and throwing up. It was horrible. The only good thing it only lasted about an hour. My husband panicked and called the Dr. He just said drink water but I could not even get that down.

Anyway my scheduled followup appt. was the next day and besides being "stupid" Dr. said I was doing excellent. The only bad thing is I have been set back about a week from going to the next stage 3 because I am still too raw inside to eat anything but liquids again. Sunday (2 weeks out from surgery), the day before I was "stupid", we had gone to Red Lobster and I had mashed up salmon with mashed potates. Only about a 1/3 cup but it satisfied my starving palate. It went down easy and never made me feel bad at all. Now I will have to wait to experiment other foods until I heal.

Thanks all you guys for caring. We are family and share our experiences. So hopefull none of you will be "stupid" like I was if you get constipated. Take care everybody. Mattie

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Awww Mattie, I am so sorry that you had to go through this. I don't know that any of us might have done the same thing. I will definately learn from your experience. Thanks for the heads up and congrats on the rest of the doctor report which seems to be excellent.

Mattie,
How horrible, and I bet you were really scared too.

Thank you for sharing this so others won't make the same mistake.

Live and Learn. Nothing we do is stupid. We learn from what we do. You were on the right line of thinking, being constipated is a horrible feeling . I know for me, when i get backed up over the counter MOM over night seems to do the trick. I even snack on dry rasin bran or sip natural prune juice to help move things along. Its so hard but everything is trial and error. Glad your ok. ALways consult with a dr before taking any medications over the counter or not. Thats just the safest thing for everyone. Hope things are still moving along for ya.

Poor Mattie, but I know how you must have felt being constipated. The iron binds me up pretty good. I went out and got some prune juice and it took two days to work. I went out and got some colace stool softener for the next time. I have upped my liquids and for now and doing okay.

I'm glad to hear you went to Red Lobster though. I missed my birthay lobster and knowing you did okay I am going to talk hubby into a belated dinner. I just have to let the cheddar bay bisquits alone!
