Thumbs up Big Medicine/ Brookhaven

(sorry guys i was on the phone talkin to that guy and missed the first run )

Let's talk

Big Medicine:

Marc: gets sick because when released because he doesnt drink the fluids or move. he doesnt take responsibility and do the work necessary to make his tool a success.
Andrew: Teenager with magic bullet mentality? Is he a good candidate for lap band? How young is too young for WLS?
Kim: Excess skin. Is it worth it?

Brookhaven:

Geraldine: diabetic/ binge eater, enabled by spouse. Is at Brookhaven to lose enough weight to have gastric bypass surgery.
Kevin: Lymphadema. cant have surgery until he loses weight. cheats frequently.
Annette: tumor. also cant have surgery until she loses weight.

*should cheaters be allowed to stay when others need the bed?

WHY DO THEY KEEP REFERING TO GASTRIC BYPASS AS THE "QUICK FIX"???

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Saw the Big Medicine show, I just can't seem to make it but a few minutes into the Brookhaven one.

I can't believe that the insurance company denied her request for a body lift. They can't really expect her to live that way, can they?

I hope the kid does okay with his lap band. At least they didn't do a RNY on him. Way to young in my opinion.

Mark did seem to have it together better when they showed him at home and he had lost over 100lbs.

I do enjoy the Big Medicine show.

Did you catch the run in with Big D and the therapist? She said that men don't have the issues that women do with obesity! I want to know where she got her degree! What a horrible statement to make. She said that men don't have the social stigma that women do so Big D asked her how many obese men she had dated. After hemming and hawing around the subject she admitted she hadn't dated any. I think he made his point. For me, obese is obese and gender shouldn't separate the emotional baggage that goes with it.

About Marc, I was very disappointed in him at first but after he went home and actually started doing what he was supposed to, I was happy for him that he was trying to get moving.

Kim broke my heart. You could see that she couldn't quite see where all she had been through was worth it if she was going to have to go through life looking the way she does now, not to mention the hygiene problems she is going to have. I don't understand insurance companies............

While Andrew may do well for awhile with the band, if they don't work on the issues that made this boy fat, he will still grow into an obese adult. I agree that this surgery is meant for more mature people. Also, at 17 his bones aren't even finished growing so I wonder if his added growth in the future will play any part in his weight loss?

As far as Brookhaven, I have seen this episode before and it was one of the most disturbing ones I have ever watched. My take on that whole program is that it is a circus. I can't understand that these people are allowed to order take out food when they are in an institution fighting obesity and its co-morbidities. The patients are largely there by government subsidies and that means that the taxpayers are footing the bill. I just don't see how they can let someone stay there for two years who gains 70 pounds while they are there. There are certainly people out there who are willing to stick to the program and gain back their lives and health. Let those people have the beds!

I was so glad to see Mark do well in the end you could see a different person in him on the home visit. He was standing and he was a proud man! I hope the continue to follow him.

Poor Kim, I hope they find some way to help her. I think they will or maybe she will change insurance to get the help she needs. this scares me as I know I will need this kind of surgery later.

I do not think Andrew has maturity to use the lapband properly. He is going to need additional help to loss weight in the future is my prodition.

As for Brookhaven, I don't know why I keep watching that show, all it does is make me mad and I find myself yelling at the TV and those people on it. From the cheaters to the staff. That director makes me sick. Treats these people like cows.

yes i was pleased to see that mark was doing well too. i was worried about him in the beginning. i really thought he'd be one of the ones that didnt make this work for him. but i was wrong and very happy to be!

brookhaven kind of makes me angry everytime i watch it. of course i am no expert but i think they keep the people there just because they are getting paid for it. not really to treat them. i see that they are left at their own will which really makes no sense. how can you live in a "controlled environment" like that for the reasons that they have to be there and be allowed to order take out?? and ontop of that have the gaul to GAIN WEIGHT while there??? i dont get it. I wish they would show more in terms of the mental health side of their treatment as well. while i am glad that obesity issues are finally getting some airtime, i fear that this show in particular gives somewhat of a skewed perspective.

yes I feel Brookhaven = money that is why he does not like the gastric bypass. He would lose half his clients. They made it seem like they care by showing the aids working the people but the staff looks very limited. Also have you seen the food it does not look very good I think I would cheat too. Just because you are on 1500 cal. a day does not mean you have to eat cabbage and baked fish every night.

Tyraine: lol! its a "new"thing on TLC. they have two shows, one is called big medicine where they show people undergoing WLS and sometimes the cosmetics afterwords, and the other is called Brookhaven hopsital or clinic or something like that. you gotta check them out at least once!
