| Questions from a Lurker
Hi everyone...long time no post...(I do read all the time) I just had my 1 yr anniversary on 7-25. I am currently at 149 lbs (I feel boney I am 5 foot 9) I am not complaining in the least but man never knew I had bones...anyways my question is Has anyone had blood pressure issues after surgery? Even at my highest 272lbs I always had great blood pressure and now since right after I mean recovery room after surgery I have had high blood pressure it runs about 170/125. I have been and currently on meds for it so its better, but I don't understand why after surgery. My doctor has really no answers for me, and my surgeon thinks maybe it has to do with a blockage in my kidney artarie, but I no longer have insurance so I am treating with my meds, and so far it is fixing it. Also did anyone notice that their breast were the last to go, for me about two months ago, they left...lol...I went from a C to about or less then an A thank goodness for push up and super padded bras.... I am looking into breast enlargement around the first of the year....Thanks everyone I am going to go post my before and now pictures if I can figure it out |

Congratulations on your weight loss.
(((((HUGS)))))) May your journey go well.
Sorry to hear about your hypertension.
Kideny artery blockage can account for high blood pressure. Another thing that should be checked out is a tumor (benign) in your adrenal glands.
It would be best if you could have a full hormonal work up done, but if you have no medical insurance, that is going to be costly.
Hmm, on second thought, since you say right after surgery, the most likely reason is as your surgeon says.
If it was due to hormonal issues, the rise should have been slow, not sudden.

I dont have the answers either. Your physicans will figure this out I hope. Even small people can have blood pressue issues. My best friend had this surgery and still deals with pressure issues. If the meds you take control it be thankful. So many people cant get it under control no matter what. Im glad to see you posting again

That is strange. Most people have it the opposite. I had high blood pressure before and now its so much better.

Hi!
I don't really have too much insight to add to this, but wanted to let you know that you are not alone! I NEVER had any issues with my blood pressure, until after surgery. Before I left the hospital, my blood pressure was really high, and the last time I went to the doctors office (6/24) it was also high. I don't recall what the figures were, but it was higher than normal, but not dangerously high. My doctor told me that he would continue to monitor it....

Hmm. Two people.
Interesting to say the least.
Usually, if you have high blood pressure that is aggravated by weight issues, it goes down with wieght loss.
I haven't come across any literature about this. (Reading up on the long term complications from gastrectomy in general, right now, no mention there, either.)
Other than hormonal issuse, and obstruction of renal arteies, the only other thing I can think of is the changes in neural (nerve) regulation of the blood vessels and/or stimulation of the adrenal gland leading to the release of hormones that raise blood pressure--this mechanism is similar to the mechanism that causes dumping.
One way to find out if this might be the reason is to have blood lab run for the adrenal hormones and also something called catecholamines. If the level of one of these is high, using medication that counteracts the particular stuff should have the best effect.
Sorry for all the tech talk. |
