Default Pre Packaged Meal Plans

Hi! I wasnt sure where to put this.
Anyone know if we can do those pre-packaged meal plans like nutrasystems or jenny craig etc? I guess I dont know anything about the nutritional information because its not something in a store that i can see a label on. I know this stuff isnt made for "us" but i was just curious.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Depends on how much carbs you can tolerate, but the FDA recommendation for carbs is at least 130g per day, but this is for the average non-op, so your nutritional requirements will be a bit different.

In the daily clinical scene, there are several ways to calculate the nutrition you need, but the standard (recommended by the Japanese Diabetes Society, which is about the same as with ADA) I use in calculating for my patients is allot 55-60% of the total daily calories to carbs. That translates to about 270g carbs in a 1800kcal diet, and 180g in a 1200kcal diet. So, anything that will bring the total above that will be high.

For your post op diet, you need to get in protein first, at least 60g, which translates into 240kcal. If your intake right now is, say, 600-800kcal, then 130g carb will translate to 520kcal, which will bring the total there to 720g. So, 130g carb will be too much. I know fr1endly2/Lisa tries to keep her carbs below 100g because of the cravings she gets. 100g carb is 400kcal, so that would be about the max amount carb you can get in, whether you try to or not. In reality, you need to alot part of your intake for fat, too, as there are minimum amounts of fat included in whatever food you take, it's virtually impossible to make everything fat free. So, at the stage you are, if the total carbs come up above 100g, it may be too high for you.

Kenya,

I was on Jenny Craig for about 4 months prior to surgery. It was convenient, expensive and certainly higher in carbs than what Doc is suggesting we post-ops have. The average meal is $6 each and for us eating 3-5x a day that's $18-$30 a day or way more than my budget can comfortably stretch.

I found that although the meals were very convenient that the business Jenny Craig is in is selling food and they didn't want me to eat food that I didn't purchase from them. I have heard other people say that they occassionally eat Weight Watchers or Lean Cuisine meals for convenience concentrating on the protein.

At walmart I can usually find these for about $2 each although I have yet to eat them post op. With school starting in a couple of weeks, I may explore this option myself. Let us know if you find any other solutions that you like.

Amy

I do have the lean cuisine from time to time I just consentrate on the ones that are terkey or chicken with a veggie and then I add apple sauce to them.

More then i worry about the carbs with them is just they are lowded with sodium.

I look at it this way if its time to time for convinace then it can't be that bad. There are much worse choces i could be makeing for myself.

one meal usulay last me 2 meals and i through some of the veggies in the gabage.

KENYA sorry but you dont need those meals and diets anymore.
IF your useing your tool right, and you are your going to loose.
YOU have tried all these things before there a waste.
ALSO the portions will be way to big for you and you will t
be throwing away your money!
JUST chill the weight is going to start up again.
AND I know i have told you before ditch the damn scale
its makeing you nuts!!!!!
better off to take it out monthly or only get weigh ins when u go
to your doctor.
SORRY to say! IF you were further out and doing poorly
and able to eat more maybe it would be an option but right now
most of the meals would be tosse and there not cheap.

oh i wasnt looking into it for weightloss. i was looking for convenience. i am tired of preparing two different selections every night lol. (one for me and one for my daughter) so i thought if i could find somethin supposedly healthy that i could pop in the microwave, then i would spend so much time cooking each night. as it is, after the commute and getting settled, we dont eat til 8.30 sometimes 9 at night, which isnt good. because by the time im done i want to go to bed lol! oh well. i could have quick stuff i guess (tuna chicken salad etc)
