Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass   |  Alergic reaction to MSG Hello all, I have been going through the motions with my lips. For over a month my lips have been swollen, cold sores, then my face broke out and the swelling of my face. At first I was told I had Impetigo and was given meds for that. Finish taking all the meds and still lips were still swollen and painful. Saturday, I went out looking horrible but needed to get out the house and before I returned home we stopped and got some chinnese food. (big mistake) My lips got even bigger and my throat starting itching. So Sunday morning after church, my mom rushed me to the doctors due to it was getting worse. Now let me just say this HMO's really bugs me. This is 9:15 in the morning and they wanted me to wait until 3:10 pm before I came in. I told them my issues I was having but still didn't want to see me until later. Well I didn't wait because I couldn't breath by this point. Get there and was told I am alergic to MSG. I have come to a conclusion the older I get the more my body just break down. Anywho, my lips are back to normal. Still a little sore but they have me on some type of steriods (prednisone) and its getting better by the day. I am glad my ordeal is almost over.

| Super Moderator  | Wow. Allergies can be scary, and yes, there are people who are allergic to MSG. You really have to be careful when it comes food allergies, because sometimes, you don't even know it's there. (((((HUGS))))

DID NOT KNOW THEY USED PEANUT OIL WOW!!!.....needless to say the evening ended in the ER with a shot of epi and a breathing treatment LOL! glad you are feeling better we missed you

| Super Moderator | You know, here, most restaurants ask you beforehand if there's anyone allergic to anything when ordering. You can be allergic to really obsucre things. For some reason, I'm allegic to soda pops. One drink is fine, but have one bottle a day for a couple of days, and I end up breaking out in hives. I'm also allergic to mango, I ate one ages ago, and broke out in hives that took days to get better.  Ever since then, I have dilligently avoided anything with mango in it, and this summer, the fad seems to be mango whatever, I see soooo many mango something stuff on the store shelves....

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | yah. they asked us if we were allergic to seeds (which i am) so i had no sesame seeds, but they never mentioned peanut oil. had they i would have left running! doc i too am allergic to magos and citrus and well just about everything. so eating out has never been one of my top 5 favorite things  i carry an epipen and benadryl at all times now

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Well I know I will not be eating out no time soon. I always carry my benadryl everywhere I go due to I don't know all that I am alergic too. I can pass someone with perfume on and have an reaction. But now they want me to carry the pen too. Good gracious, I have enough meds to take as it is.....lol Now to carry a pen. I know it's for my own good but still.....lol I just feel like being a little pain today.

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Same here with the mango's. We used to live in GTMO Bay Cuba and had a mango tree in the back and would pick them, cut them up and freeze them. It never failed, I also broke out when I touched them after they were peeled. The docs on base said that they assumed that I was allergic to them. They saw a lot of people with a rash around their mouths after eating them. I don't know, maybe it was just something about the ones in Cuba, but I can tell you that I haven't tried Mango anything in YEARS!! |
