Default question about post surgery pain

I am new to this site and it has been very helpful. I had the open rny surgery on May 22. I am 3 months out and am having pain in the stomach area on the right side. I went to the surgeon and he thought it was just muscle or nerve pain. Last night I took some advil and within 5 minutes I noticed it really was starting to hurt. Now I just have some pain across there. It seems to hurt for a few days then get better than maybe a week later it happens again. It does freak me out a little and I get that thing they call the stinkin thinking. Was hoping maybe someone here had that happen to. He did check and it isnt a hernia. Thanks for this great site it really has helped me.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

no problem. take a look at this:
http://www.renewedreflections.com/fo...e-post-op.html

hope it helps.

for migraines, they can prescribe something but i think you might have to make whoever is writing to script aware that you had a bypass so they dont give you something that will cause damage.

Welocme to the boards. Lots of interesting info here.

Tylenol is OK, but no NSAIDs (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflamitory Drugs), they can cause problems. Tell you doctor you've been taking Advil and how often. Watch you bowel movements for signs of blood (black tarry streaks). Emergency Dept. can also test for blood in the stool even though it's not visible. But talk to your Doc first. It could be just gas.

There's a thread here somewhere that lists all the medications we can no longer take, and which ones are safe. But someone else will have to point you to it 'cause I don't know how to find these things.

Thank you to all of you for your information. I am so glad I found this place. It is hard to do it on your own sometimes. I have only been taking advil for about a week but now I know so I wont do that again. It isnt an ulcer it is more like a pain. And it burns when I cough so I have to use a pillow or I feel like I could die. Maybe now that I wont be taking advil no more maybe it will heal up. Like I said I am so grateful to have found this site and plan to do alot of reading to catch up on all my dos and donts. Thanks again.

And yet again it seems we find just how different our surgeons are. Seeing how some people that come here just don't have the information that my Dr. is offering me makes me a lot more confident in this team of mine. And I have come to see why they want all their patients to take a test before the surgery. And we have to go to their meetings at least once before surgery and they want you to come monthly after so you can be around others that have had this. It is hard to believe that you were not even told not to take advil makes me wonder what else you have not been told about. Please hang out and read a lot of these old posts you will surely learn a lot..

yes and if you have ny questions, i'm not saying we are all right by any means. of course go with what your dr says first, but i suspect the advil is causing the pain. it damages the pouch. but do stick around as suggested, and ask as much or as little as you like. we are all here to help and share

If yor pain is on the right it might be gas or gallbladder, your stomach is on the left.
