Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Hi, today must be 16th day after the surgeory. I have couple of problems so far, first my ugly long wound that refuses to heal!!! it still discharges although my surgeon opened up the stiches but there is a small part which he had to re-open it to allow the discharging process. Untill today that small opening in my wound hasn't healed neither stopped discharging!!! Second issue is that according to the surgeon records I must have lost 11kg (24lb) but now this is my 3rd day and my weight is plateauing!!! I have't lost 1/10 lb!!!! What's wrong! I'm doing everything right! I'm on my full liquid/light puree phase and mostly on liquid but my scale is risisting and my spirits are resisting to get lifted up as well :~( I'm very depressed ![]()

| Super Moderator | ChuppyGirl, surgery insicisons, well, any wounds, need to heal from the inside to the outside. In other words, the inner wound has to close first, then the rest close starting from the inside towards your skin. Unless the inner cut closes first, you are going to have a "pocket" where exudates--liquids that your body produces, whether they are clean or infected-- will collect. If you get an infection with a pocket existing, it's going to cause some trouble for you, so better to leave the outer wound open and let the discharge ooze out. Keep it clean in the way your dr has instructed and it will heal in time. Get in the proteins you are required to, to encourage the healing. As for your second Q, I'm copying the post I put up in reply to yours in another thread so here it is. Chuppy, if you DON'T up your diet per your dr and nutritionist/dietician's instructions, your body will stall. The reason behind it is this. If your body thinks that you are starving yourself, it will go into a self-defensive mode, and try to hold on to everything you eat, instead of urging your system to release all the stocked up fat. You need to "trick" your body that you are getting in enough so that your system doesn't have to worry about hogging everything up. Don't get obsessed with the scale--this is a mistake many post ops make. Even if your scale does not move, you will be losing inches, um, centimeters for you. Don't compare how you are doing with the progress of others, either. Each and every one of you will lose at your own pace, at the pace your body thinks is safe for you. When you see all the before/after photos of everyone, I'm sure you think, "Ooooh, I'm going to get there soon!" and then, when you look at yourself, and compare with others, you get impatient that you do not seem to be doing as well as they are. Remember, they did not get there in one night, and they did not lose all in one fell swoop. Neither did they all lose at the same speed, the same pace, and get where they are, all in the same timing. Each one's journey is unique. You will very certainly get where you need to be, so long as you trust your surgeon and whomever he has as support staff, and your body to do what needs to be done. What you need to do now, is to train your brain to think the right way about food-- in other words, do not live for food, but choose food so that you may live-- learn to make healthy choices about food, eat healthy portions, deal with your sugar addiction, build a healthy life style. Your weightloss will come together only with these things, if you obsess about the numbers that appear on your scale, it is going to be one more added stress that you are going to face, so better to let it go, and let everything come along in its own natural time and way. Don't let your brains tell you all sorts of things and confuse you. (((((((HUGS))))))))

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | HEY CHUPPYGIRL!!! PLATAUES will happen and the first one hits people around 4 to 6 weeks post op. Its the first of many so be strong, follow the rules and you will get back into looseing mode. ITS very hard i know. BUT its part of the catch up time and normally when the scale freezes the visual inches melt off. SORRY to hear that your wound is healing slowly. ITs frustrating im sure. OPEN surgery is a bit harder to recover then the lapriscopic...i do want to send you (((FEEL BETTER HUGS)))) TRY to not weigh youself everyday. ITS dangerous. I have only learned recently to not do that. BE strong i think your doing wonderfully

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Your wounds have to heal in their own time... There was 3 or 4 days my weight didn't move either...and I was equally as curious. I was told to stay off the scale. I popped on today...just for a peak...and VOILA!! 3 pounds down!! It will happen my friend...don't worry!

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | I am 8 months out and at a plateau right now but I don't let it get me down. I will change around my workouts to see if that will help. I do know that it will change soon. I have now lost 120 pounds and I would be very happy to stay at this weight. I don't think I have been at 177 pounds in 25 years.

Height: | awww chuppy, I totally relate, I had to hide my scale and resort to now only weighing myself on Tuesday mornings to celebrate my weekly marks. Remember that in the whole scheme of things the amount of weight you have already lost is amazing. Try not to get too down. I am hoping that my weight will be down a few more when I weigh next time, but if not I have to still be proud of what I already accomplished. I am taking pictures full front and side view every four weeks. I was discouraged due to my being sick and when I took my four week pics and looked at them side by side with my pre op pics, I was amazed at the strides I have already made. Hang in there sweetie. Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | I finally had my husband take the scale and hide it somewhere in the house!! It was helarious....we made a deal that I'd weigh only 2 times a week. At first it was going to be once a week...and then I counter offered and I'm going to weigh on my surgery day...and sundays. Pretty funny. I was having a hard time jumping on that scale every single day....pretty obsessive. (It's extreamly obsessive espcially when the needle isn't moving....aaaaah) I'm soooo excited to hear that you had an great time of looking at your one month pic! That is soooo great...are you going to share?? We want to see too!!! DO SHARE. I'm gonna do that too...thanks for the encouragement!
