Default Mrs.Dash vs Salt

so i got some mrs.dash packets through the mail and decided since i was trying to eat healthier i would try them out. (mrs.dash is a seasoning substitute for salt), and wow i loved them. well, i've only tried two so far but they were great. and they come in about 5 or 6 different flavours. i tried the original and the chipolte. since i cut out salting things this is great for me because now i can add a little flavour to the everyday drab. if you can get these you should try them. i just love them so much i had to share.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

thanks friend i keep having to remind myself that just because i like something now doesn't mean i still will after the surgery, hopefully that won't happen with too much stuff but who knows. even now before the surgery i have cut out pop for so long and changed to water to the point that i find pop, even diet too sweet.

anytime you need me i'll listen, may not always help you solve the problem but we'll try (that goes for anyone who needs to vent by the way), you have all of been there for me it's the least i can do

I also heard that in some cases it is good for us to slightly increase our salt intake post op, has anyone else heard this? I have been interested in the Mrs. Dash seasonings that have come out recently too, but haven't bought any yet. It is weird how your tastes change post op. I used to love eggs and now I can't stand them. Maybe I will like them again later, but now I just avoid them. Just don't stock up too much ahead of time on foods for after surgery, and don't buy too much of the same thing. I have gotten a lot more picky too. I think it has to do with if this is all I can have today, I am making sure it is palatable and somewhat enjoyable.

Question hmmmm....something to think about and try...

Growing up, my family used "Mrs. Dash" on some really cheapy meals...like ramen...etc. Ever since then...my thought about "Mrs. Dash" makes me think of kinda spicey...and something I'm not to eager to 're-visit.'

I've actually never even considered using it again...even kinda hearing that there are all these new flavors...hmmm?

I do need to watch my salt intake though...I've noticed since my surgery one thing that has changed is that things don't have or taste as much...possibly this is a side effect of surgery?? I didn't really "think - think" about it until now...I just know that I SALT everything...

I should probably taste some of the "Mrs. Dash" to see if it makes a difference.

Really you should try it again. i used to salt everything and then started cutting out salt on most things because of the water retention and health issue, now, except for my veggies i use it almost every night with supper. We
ve only tried the original and the chipolte but we love both of them.

good advice about the not stocking up issue. in a way i want to but that's where the reminders of tastes changing comes in. thanks

I do suppose "Mrs. Dash" comes from "a dash of salt", but this name was pretty funny to me, because "dashi" in Japanese means Japanese soup stock, and is a must for most Japanese cooking, whether with soups, or as a base for boiling food. There are several types of dashi, depending on what the original ingredients are, and I know you can get instant versions of this in stores that sell Japanese food stuff in Canada and in the US. Some are sold in granular forms, others in liquids, especially the ones with soy sauce added to it. Anyway, without dashi, Japanese food is missing that crucial "something."

Talking I Love Sushi!!!

I LOVE Japanse food DOC!....
Especially SUSHI!!!!!

Oh my, I'm a nut for it...I think honestly...I could live on it. Remember I told you about my Japanese roomie in college? She's the one who introduced me to it...and I LOVE it.
I always thought 'Sushi' was raw fish...and turned my nose up to it...
and then Suki made it for us...and made it with all fresh veggies and advacado...OH MY...I loved it.

And now... in the last 15 yrs...I've branched out trying ALL sorts...and love the spicy tuna to the salmon.... mostly rolls... sushimi isn't my fav...but I do like it with shrimp.

I'm hoping SUSHI will be something I'll be able to have again...I know the rice expanding in my pouch thing will be hard for now...but, I had a friend that would eat 1/4c. of rice...for a meal now and then...she was about a yr. post op. though....

Anyway...I'm going to a business dinner tonight w/ my hubby to one of our favorite Japanese restaraunts...It's funny. I'm excited...but sad...I'll probably only be able to eat 3 bites and then be done....I'll have to choose those 3 bites wisely!!

OH...BTW: My surgeon cleared me to start on solids...I'm going to try some...but little by little.

Congratulations on moving on to solids. I am sure you are thrilled. I am now eating some soft foods into my diet. When we went shopping the other night, we went out to Applebee's for dinner and I got a kid's meal. I do admit to snaking a few fries, oops, but for the most part alternated between a couple of bites of chicken breast and a few bites of grilled cheese sandwich. I took leftover grilled cheese sandwich and grilled chicken and ate them today for lunch and dinner. I have actually been doing really good on water today since I went on two different walks and I seem to keep it down easier when I walk for some reason. So far so good, nothing has come back up today, so I can celebrate that victory with thanks.
