I understand just what you are talking about. I am 23 out of surgery and I can eat a cup of food sometimes with no problems. Other times the 1/2 cup is too much. At night I can barely take the pills I have to. I understand your concern about stretching your pouch out, I feel the same way. I eat slowly and I am conscious of how full I am with each bite. I go back to the DR.S on 11/8. I am sure we will lose weight as we are eating healthy food and the quantity is reduced drastically but I am concerned about the pouch stretching..... DOC HELP!

What if you just measure out your 1/2 cup serving and eat just that? Would you be hungry? I just measure my food and when I am done with that I am done

(((HUG))) i am sure you havent stretched out your pouch.
OVER time it has to do that some.
Different foods will keep us fuller longer, and we will
be able to eat more of softer foods.
as long as you follow the rules you will be fine
its normal to stress and worry cause we never were
successful at this journey before!
relax I KNOW YOUr not nearly eating what
you could pre op!
I remember freaking some the first time i ate an entire
slice of pizza post op. AND got worried, but come on
in reality pre op i could eat three pieces and did!
so relax your tool is fine.
just the horrible things our mind does on this journey
at times

Hmmm.
First, one question, soup? Did you drink all the liquid in the soup along with its solid ingredients? Because if you did, then you need to practice the no fluids with meals rule, fluids taken together with solids will push the solids out of the pouch and enable you to get more into your pouch.
Second, point in effect. You're about 2.5 months out. That means, the swelling in your pouch, and along the staple lines should have all but gone down, and the size of your pouch what it originally was meant to be. IN other words, it can contain more than it could immediately post op when it was all swollen up. What it can contain now, is what it was meant to contain from the beginning.
One of the reasons you weren't able to get much in very early out is because your pouch was swollen from the effect of the surgery, which is a normal part of healing. As I have said in other threads, it takes 3-4 months to heal completely and regain all functions. Most of your healing is probably done by now, and your system is now adjusting to regain all the functions it needs to regain, adjust to the new plumbing, etc.
Long story short.
No, you haven't stretched your pouch. The changes in amount are all part of the process, and the final amount you should be able to eat per meal varies from 3-4 oz to 6 oz at most.
You're no where near that yet.
(((((((HUGS))))))

I just how you feel . I worry about stretching to. BUt What i have found out my worst habit is eating to fast. THe food doesnt stay down. and it causes pain... When I do sit down and eat slowly it varies what I can eat and how much. I worry about my cravings too. I had my surg in sept Im at a stand still again, so that stresses me too thinking here we go I did it wrong, now im going to gain...

I always think the same thing. But I just tell myself this is how it works. And, I'm still losing, so the tool is working. Of course, I'm not losing as fast as I WANT, but it is still coming off. I think that we are sooooo afraid of failure that we will always have these types of thoughts. Keep your head up, and just keep positive!!

I have been in the same boat as you I had my surgery in 7/19/07 I also am able to eat about a cup of food sometimes but i also look at it this way it may be a cup before it is chewed and once chewed it gets smaller so in the pouch it is a bit less. so after chewing and swallowing its most likely a 1/2 to 4quarts of a cup in my pouch i gess.

| After years and years of loss and gain it is hard to trust your body. And perhaps that is what you need just a little of. Trust your pouch to do good by you and you do good by it and I am sure you will get through this..

Look at you! You've almost lost 100 pounds WOW!! How great is that! As for the pouch stretching -- I haven't even thought of it. Sometimes I can eat more than other times. LIke the other day we went to the chinese buffet (yes, I went to a buffet) and I had one plate of food. One piece of chicken cashew. One piece of orange chicken. A spoonful of veggies and seafood. And three pcs of sushi without the rice! Okay, I paid too much but it was so much fun to go again! I guess I really hadn't given it much thought -- but I'm just not eating enough to be concerned with it. You're probably fine Lisa!
