Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass   |  The affair is over..... This is something I copied from OH. I just really enjoyed reading it and wanted to share it with you guys. I'm sure most of us will be able to relate to parts if not all of it. It started so innocently. Long wistful glances, the occasional taste, my "reward" for being whatever, the casual indulgence. Then the occasional enjoyment became part of my lifestyle: satisfying, warm, sociable, "what everybody else is doing". Later it became a need: the comfort of knowing it was always there, something to turn to when I was lonely, depressed, stressed. The pattern had changed too. No longer something I took my time with. I hurried through the experience. I hid my guilty pleasure from others. It was mine and mine alone. I felt ashamed but couldn't control the obsession, the need. I began to withdraw from the ones I loved--too afraid they would know about my sin. Then the addiction: I could no longer control my wants, my desires. I thought about my next fix constantly. I watched the clock for my appointment with my lover. I took no enjoyment from it--I just fulfilled the need. My mental, spiritual, and physical health deteriorated. I was dying from my addiction but I didn't really care. I passed myself off to the world as "happy". I turned up my nose at programs that could help me. I ignored the advice of professionals and friends. Then one day last year my doctor told me I would definitely be dead before I was old enough to retire. When I gave my husband the news, he asked me to LIVE FOR HIM IF I COULDN'T LIVE FOR MYSELF. Despite the affair that had taken me away from his loving arms, away from his embrace, away from US--he still loved me, wanted me, and needed me. I scheduled my gastric bypass. Today the affair is over. Food is necessary for life. It is no longer what I turn to for love, self-esteem (I was one hell of a cook), comfort. It is still a focal part of my life: I have to watch protein levels, drink my water, take my vitamins. I have to remember to eat. I often forget. But what I turn to now for LOVE is my husband of 38 years, my children, my grandchildren, my friends. What I turn to now for self-esteem is what I can give to others, the help I can offer on this board, my quilting for charity. What I turn to now for comfort is the knowledge that I will be there for my husband as we grow older: that I will be able to physically love, nurture, and care for this wonderful man who has stood by me for 38 years. The affair is over. |
