Question lettuce

I have a question about lettuce. Well I bought a small bag of shredded lettuce, becasue I was so hungry for lettuce. But like usual I did not think before I bought the little bag of lettuce. It seems to me I heard or read someplace that you have to be a few months out before eating lettuce, does anybody know when a person can eat lettuce after the gastric bypass. How early did some of you eat lettuce. I know my daughter ate lettuce very early but I am afraid if I am to early out yet, to eat lettuce.
What is the reason for eating lettuce later on?

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Default Lettuce

I was allowed lettuce at my 1 month visit. However, I think each doctor is different. Mine said I could have anything (3oz at a time) that isnt sugar, fried, or high fat. However, he wanted me to focus on high protein, so I dont eat much lettcue. Hope this helps, but ask your nutritionist.

Again there all different on this. Mine allows it right now but tells me not to depend on it. Why? No protien and they want that protein in ya. Im like you and would like to have a salad. He told me to make sure I had the protein in the salad and make sure I eat it. LOL. Good luck honey were at about the same stage and I love your questions because they have answered some of my own.

(Now...one of my best WLS buddies craved it too....and she really had a hard time with Lettuce from the 'get go'....but, now 19mos post op she can eat it fine....)

I LOVE LOVE LOVE lettuce! Hope you can enjoy it too!

heres where we will have different instructions. i was told no raw veggies for 6 months but then my nut cleared me at 4. ive really only JUST started with lettuce. i havent done a salad just yet but ive had it in my wrap with my chicken. it takes up a lot space in my opinion. and i tend to burp a lot even when i have just a little. hw you tolerate it will be on YOUR pouchy. everyone handles foods differently im finding.

yeah another one of the varying issues
best to see what your surgeon suggests.

FOR me iceburg lettuce wont sit well
but ROMAINE does.
GO figure. AGAIN its an empty food
and best we fill up on our protein first
and have just a little of it. BEING early
out you eat so little.

HUGS!
can u believe thats the food your craving!
I craved it too for some odd reason!

I also started eating salads early out maybe a month or two out and never had a problem. I think if you can tolerate it and the doc says ok it adds a little something to the chicken and cheeses we are eating. Makes it more interesting. I always get the dressing on the side and add very little as needed .....i love chicken cesear salads with lots of romano cheese. yum and the place i order from does the low fat ceasear dressing which is even better. I even add a handful of crutons to add a little....

Again trial and error and if your surgeon and pouch agree go for it.

As everyone is saying we all have different rules from our surgeons. I think mine was like 2 months. I also know from reading on here that alot of people do well with salad and others dont. Everyones body reacts differently. I do ok with it but later on watch out because I am very gassy~!!! As always check with your surgeons office to be sure.

Actually, I was told there is VERY little nutritional value in the lettuce, and I hate to waste the space on it! Don't get me wrong, ever so often, I would LOVE a huge salad....I just haven't really eaten much. I was cleared for raw veggies at 4 weeks....I just don't eat them much. I'm about the protein and cooked veggies!

Here is my surgeons version, as Kath said, there is NO nutritional value at all in the iceburg lettuce, so my surgeon said none for me, romain or the others are okay in moderation, protein first though. The iceburg is harder to chew into small pieces and it takes up room in your pouch that protein food could be taking instead.
