Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass    |  Follow up Appt....the saga continues ok so i have had a sleepy left foot for some time now. two weeks ago i went in to see the dr because i was nervous. i have a friend with wernicke's and i was PRAYING that that was not my fate. I was told it was related to how i cross my legs and blood flow and to follow up in two weeks. well, i went in today because it has spread up my leg. i am now numbe from knee to toe UGH! NOW, i saw the husband who also practices in the same group and IMMEDIATELY he refers me for an MRI. he suspects a herniated disk. GOOD GOD!  i DID have an injury about two years ago. i went to PT and it ended up fine. i have not had any pain in my back since. but he thinks that the way it healed was ok for my body then but now that im almost 90 lbs lighter, it's not working out. so....i guess my question/thought is, am i gonna have to have back surgery???? ugh! i'll keep you all posted when i get the darn MRI.......

| Super Moderator  | Are you telling me I was right all along?  Seriously, I hope things will be so that you won't have to have a big deal over it. Now, I don't know if it's done there, but here, some drs have started treating herniated disks by burning the middle of the disk with laser beam (under raidiological guidance) which shrinks the disk back into place. It takes only a couple of hours and the effect is immediate. I actually know the orthopedic surgeon who does it, although I haven't seen him for years now. If the subject of surgey comes up, ask around if it's being done in the US, and if so, if there's an orthopedic surgeon or a neurosurgeon in your proximity who can do it. ((((((HUGS))))))

The method I'm talking about isn't surgery as you would think of, not even laparoscopic. What they do is put you through a CT, insert a needle like device that emits laser beams while watching the CT monitor for correct placement, then burn the middle of the disk. That makes a cavity in the middle of the disk, so it shrinks, and the outer edge that was irritating the nerve root gets out of the way.
