Thanks To All Of You For All The Advice And Info...today I Was At Work Trainin A New Rep.. An I Got A Call From The Doctors Office... I Never Get Personal Calls At Work Because All Our Calls R Recorded...i Had Just Sent The Info...to The Doctors Office This Week End ... I Didn't Think I Would Here From Them Till Next..

They Got My Packet Info And Vi. Insurance And She Told Me That They Had A Cancelation For 2mor And I Could Come In For My Consultation...i Was Shocked Because There R Long Wating List At The Doctor Office I Had Started With At 1st...(i Canceled My Appt..when I Became Afraid Of The Lady Pasting Away)but Was Told Could Make Another Appt.. For The 3rd Of Dec..

The Only Thing Is At The 1st Office They Have Like $700 In Fee's Before You Know If You R Approved (this Doctor Has Done Over 1000 Lap Rny) My Pcp Works At This Hospital

The Second Office Does Not Have These Up Front Fees (this Doctor Has Done About 300 Lap Rny's)

I Have Looked Up Info On Both And They Have Good Reviews..but I Want To B Safe

The Book I Read Said The More They Do The Better.. I No I Can't Afford All The Fees At The 1st Office... At The Seminar I Went To With The Second Doctor He Said All His Patients R Alive And Had A Couple Of Them As Guess Speakers..

Can Any1 Offer Any Adivce About How You Chose The Surgen..(the 1st Doc You Can't Even Meet With Him Unless You Pay The 1st $500)

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Why are they requesting that much, UPFRONT, before you are approved?
I am new to the process, but that sounds weird to me....so my next question is...if you don't get approved, will you get that back?

When Asked About The Fee's Upfront They Said It Was Member Fee For Being In Ther Weight Loss Program....an That Would Cover The Group Surgeon Meeting, One On One Meeting With The Surgeon, dietion Visit, and Consultation...

If Am I Not Approved They Keep All The Money...(my Concern Is If You Have Up Front Fees Will They Help Me If I Am Denied The 1st Time By My Insurance) They Have The Money...so Why Help...

The Second Doctor They Bill My Insurance And Then I Pay 20% Of What They Don't Cover...there Is No Fee For Coming In For The Consultation..but All Of My Appt. That Need To Be Meet Before I Can Have Lap Rny Would Be Spread Out...vs.. The 1st One Everything Is Done In 2days An You Wait On Approval...

Uhhh, personally, I would go with the second doctor. I know I have my appt. Monday and I will ask about any fees.

But I hope some other members post their experience because that just sounds weird to me...but then I could be wrong. But then again, anything anymore shouldn't surprise me when it comes to people and money.

I would wait to hear from someone here BEFORE you go with tht first doctor. Pray about it and if you don't feel peace, LET IT GO and go somewhere else.

All I can say is that I have to have very delicate spinal surgeries done on a regular basis (nothing close to the same kind of surgery I know...), which is similarly a really scary thing. I went to a Doc in his early 30's (figured his technique would be up to date etc cause he was fairly young), who had done 1000's of procedures, and for whom there was a huge waiting list because he is considered really good!

The weeding process for a person's Doc is a very personal thing. Just make sure you have some standards that you'd be interested in the Doc who "scores higher".

As to telling your Mom, many people find it much easier not telling family members who are going to pressure them, until close to or after the procedure! It sounds like with your OWN mind giving you a hard time, it would be REALLY hard having a family member discouraging you and "disasterizing" the situation!

Just my thoughts!

XOXO
Mya

Mya,
Did you have to pay fees up front? I know there are probably fees that won't be covered by insurance, but did they request these up front for your surgery?

I Just Got Back And I Went To See Doc.#2..i Didn't Have To Pay A Co-pay For The Visit Or Anything.. He Told Me That I Can Have It Done And All I Needed Was The Info.. From My Pcp Of My Weight For The Last Five Years...have A Psyc. Visit..

He Also Told Me With Me Havin A Bmi Of 42 That I Should Think About Lap Band.. He Said That He Wanted Me To Know That I Can't Control How Much Weight I Loss And Can Become Smaller Than I Want To If I Go With Lap Rny...i Told Him That I Don't Think I Will Get To Small I Have Never Been Small.. If I Lose 100 I Would Still Be 165..so I'm Not Mad At All.. But He Said That It's Up To Me An He Will Support What Ever One I Go With...
