I too am reading WLS for Dummies and it is a great read. I highly recommend it for anyone who is considering the surgery.

I too look for signs to help in my decision making process.
When I was in the beginning stages of deciding whether or not to have surgery, I noticed many signs that I interpreted to mean that I should consider not having the surgery. I think this was my fears surfacing. Since I have decided to go ahead with surgery and have really processed most of my gitters (of course there are still some lingering little ones - this is major surgery) I only notice all positive signs to have the surgery. I often think what signs we notice and/or interpret a particular way directly relate to how we are feeling on the inside. Two people can look at the same situation and one can see it as a positive and the other see it as negative, It is all in how we look at things. I am a glass 1/2 full kinda girl and it works well for me.
Good Luck on your journey. I think that you should only share your decision to have the surgery with whomever you feel needs to know and who will support you in YOUR decision.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Lap? I'm still new to this whole thing, but I would think about your choices, ask around her and then make your decision.
What was his FULL explanation for the BMI and lap connection? I would have automatically assumed with such a high BMI that LAP/Open RnY would be best.

Whatever choice you make, I pray you will be happy and successful.
I am soooo glad you went with Doc #2!!! Woot woot!

Ms, Dizzy

When I Said Lab...he Was Asking Me If I Would Consider Lab Band..i Want Lap Rny..so I Made It Clear That I Want Lap Rny..i Will Worry About Being To Small Later..he Said His Self If I Intake More Protein..i Could Put More Weight Back On If I Get To Small.

Also Dizzy, I Was Thinking If Doc#1 Had So Many Fees Because He Is In High Demand..that Hospital That He Works At Is Bigger.he Is Also Haed Of The Weight Loss Surgery Board...

But With Doc#2 It Is Smaller And He Don't Have The Fees...also He Is The Only Surgeon In The Room An He Has An Assitant That Will Be There..vs Doc. #1 That Has His Self And Another Doc...

So Do You Think I Should Keep Doc#1 In Mind?

Hi there! I knew you wanted Lap RnY. I am just trying to figure out his reasoning for the Lap Band! But it's totally up to you. I knew from all my research and reading that I wanted the RnY and I will advise my surgeon of that Monday when I meet with her.
And I wouldn't worry about getting too small. Better small then obese and unhappy. And you never know, you might actually not get skinny skinny. It's what you want to weigh. I want to be curvy like I was growing up. So I have made up in my mind to get to 160...once I get there, I will determine if I want to get lower then that. I might, I might not. But 160 and curves is what I'm aiming for.

I am sooo glad you didn't have to pay fees for the 2nd doctor. THAT IS GREAT. I was kind of taken back when I read that. I know some fees for any hospital stay are not always covered by insurance, but that bit that if you are denied you don't get your money back, bothered me tremendously.

I would just make sure that the surgeon you choose is certified by a few organizations and is trained in GBS.

Where do you live?

Yes I would wonder about a Dr. that wanted that kind of money up front. Prob because ppl get denied and this way he gets something even if he didn't do anything. I know I have been sabotaging myself lately. I think I am back on track but I understand the fears. Like all the girls said, they all had them and it is just normal for you to be worried about such a drastic surgery. But like Doc said look at the health reasons for getting this that is what I have been doing. It is also a very important part of this.

I AGREE THAT THE GOOD THING WITH DOC.#2 I CAN SEE IF I GET APPROVED AND NOT BE OUT OF POCKET ANY MONEY IF NOT...HE ALSO HAS ALL THE REQUIRMENTS THAT MY INSURANCE REQUIRES AND ALL THE CERTFICATIONS THAT ARE NEEDED..(IN THE BOOK WLS FOR DUMMIES)...

THEY ALSO GAVE ME ALL THE INFO. THE INSURANCE CO. WILL NEED BEFORE THEY SUBMIT FOR PRE-APROVAL..ONE THING THAT BOTHERD ME KIND OF WAS THE INFO. SAID THAT I HAD TO PROVIDE DOCUMENTS THAT I HAVE HAD A BMI OF 40 OR MORE FOR THE LAST 5YEARS..BUT THE LADY IN THE DOCTORS OFFICE SAID DON'T WORRY ABOUT THAT AS LONG AS I HAVE BEEN OVER WEIGHT FOR A 5YEAR PERIOD OF TIME..I WILL BE OK.. SHE SAID THE SHE WORKS WITH UNITED HEALTHCARE ALL THE TIME..SO I SHOULD BE GREAT.BECAUSE I DIDN'T WANT TO WASTE MY TIME..IF I WAS NOT GOING TO EVEN BE CONSIDERED..

I WILL PRAY ABOUT THIS..THAT GOD LEAD AN GUIDE ME THE RIGHT WAY..THANK'S TO YOU ALL FOR THE SUPPORT

I picked up the Weightloss for Dummies book last night. Good soo far!!!

If you doctor's records can show that you have been overweight or in the same range for 5 years, you are golden. So do not worry about it. Just let the rep do her job, you do your's by praying and trusting God.

I am going to do the same and call my rep at Barix and then call the insurance company to get a detailed idea of what I need to qualify. That way I can stop stressing.

Keep in touch and let us know how things are going.

Did you read this weeks' People magazine? (I confess, I "borrowed" it from the gym because I like to read this stuff when I'm on the treadmill - but I'll take it back tonight).

IF IN ANY WAY that lady dying is a sign from God to you, it is a sign that you do not go to a doctor whose surgical office is a street corner strip mall, who has had his medical licence under review for 2 DUI arrests, sued 11 times in 9 years for allegations ranging from negligence to sexual battery, and has $400,000 in judgments against him. This doctor IS a surgeon, but he is not board-certified in plastic surgery. Certification is not required to practice, but it should be a red flag.

I do not believe in signs from God, but if there is one in any of this, it is NOT that the lady dying means for you not to have the surgery, but for you to make sure you don't go to a doctor like THAT!!!

Doctors can be checked out on the internet. THAT is the sign.

IMO

Rachael said it all. I said it through a PM.
We still do not have the specifics of how she died. She might not have even died because of anything he did from the surgery. We have to wait until the toxicology reports come back in a few weeks.

But as Rach. said, he is not certified to do plastic surgery, and Oprah putting him on her show and showing him off is an approval to the world that he is ok, you don't have to check him out.

Nuh Uh, sorry. You have to check EVERYONE OUT. Your lif is at stake, your family and their happiness is at stake. Make sure your surgeon is certified through as many medical associations as possible.

I feel so bad for Kanye West and the rest of the family, but yet again, this is a warning for all of us to research, research, RESEARCH.
