Women voted in Kuwait for the first time yesterday as the conservative oil-rich emirate became the last Gulf state to allow universal suffrage.

Kuwaiti voters appeared to embrace the milestone in Middle East democracy as turnout figures surged to over 80 per cent in many of the 25 constituencies. Turnout was believed to be particularly high among women as they exercised their democratic right for the first time. They voted in separate stations across the conservative state as Islamists, who had rejected female suffrage, had demanded. Campaigners handed out roses to voters or water bottles with candidates' photos printed on them and volunteers offered voters rides to polling stations in golf carts.

Since Hanadi didn't get the opportunity to get pictures....I did a little digging thru some international internet news...and found these two great pictures....I can almost imagine Hanandi's face under the hejab! Can't you?!

I really wanted to see all of the women lined up to take their right....but no where I looked had any pictures like that...
Oh well....

UGHHHHHHHHHH where did you get these pictures I was searching this morning the CNN, BBK, Kuwait News, KUNA, all the well known presses and couldn't find good women pictures I dunno why they focused on the black veil and face covered women these cannot be considerd as a majority in Kuwait, we do have women cover/don't cover their heads couldn't find something that represents our true reality. I hate biosed and missleaded presses.

Deborah honey I'm very thankful for the sweet words you made and yes I think with women had their political rights for the first time yesterday have engraved democracy with gold at the Kuwait recent history gate that leades to New free Kuwait, where men and women are equal in their ledigimate duties and rights.

SORRY to hear your canidates lost.
HOW often are elections held in KUWAIT?
its too cool to learn about this.
THAT is interesting on the mother father
and the nationality of the kids thing but
to me what matters most would be that
the kids are loved and raised in a loving
home more so then which nationality
they were.
