Gas prices rose here by about 10% a little over a month ago. So, why is it Well....the first week of May includes 3 consecutive days of national holidays, so there's an exodus from Tokyo that leaves traffic fairly light here. (Now, we have crazy city traffic, where a 10 mile trip can take an hour...to be driving in Tokyo means that one is all three of, 1, love to drive, 2, are very very patient and cool headed, and 3, crazy enough, so of course, I am all three.) Usually, the holiday traffic goes back to normal within a week....but not so, this time. Everyday, I expected to finally get caught in the crazy rush of cars...but the traffic stayed light, and I noticed last week, that it probably was getting lighter than before...then I suddenly remembered the gas price hike, and figured, it had driven many drivers off the road...so, less traffic, and that one hour drive is at least 10-15 mins shorter these days! Now, my car has among its instrument meters, an indicator that shows the average fuel consuption with each filling. So, today, I realized that with my most recent filling, I was getting much more distance out of the gallon--actually, it's liters here, 1 gallon=approx 3.8 liters, I think--so I did some caluculations. I am now covering about 1/3 more distance than when fuel consumption was at its worst, and cost wise, it's turned out that I am paying about $20 LESS per month for gas for the same distance I cover.... I sure hope nobody else notices this, otherwise, I am going to lose the edge I have right now....

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | I spent $40 on a little over a 13gallon tank yesterday.... THAT IS INSANE!!! I'm soooo excited to Sell our cars and go to city public transit...I didn't even mind this weekend when I was jumping from one train, taxi, bus....I just thought... wow... this is cheaper than driving. The downside...I'll have to plan a lot better....I won't be able to jump in my car at the last minute to zoom to the grocery...or cleaners...or to meet a friend at the last minute. But...I won't be putting $40 of gas into my car each week either!!! CAN'T WAIT!! By the way...we sold my husbands car this morning!! Well...there is a commitment to buy it....we don't actually have the "mulah" in hand. The dad of our babysitter is going to buy it for her and her sister!!~

OK although Kuwait is one of the countries that produces oil, but life is very expensive here. One of the silly contraries that the 1 liter mineral water (0.200 KD~US$ 0.6916) is more expensive that 1 liter oil (0.075 KD~US$ 0.2593). I fill my 1.8 liter Passat (Volx Wagon) car (~4KD=US$13 to15) twice a week. PS. 1 Gallon = 3.75 liters Yes we're lucky to have the oil as a national wealth, but girls life here is really expensive I cannot describe it! To buy a 500 meter square real state (land without building) ~ 180,000KD = US$ 630K !!!!!!!!!! and to build the house a standard Kuwaiti family has to pay 120,000KD = US$415,000 almost 1/2 a million girls!!!!!!!!!!! so in total over a million Dollar! UUUUUGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH food is expensive, clothes are expensive...everything is expensive. I believe the oil price goes up because of the winter season. Anyhow, even in my country everybody encourages to share transportation to optimize the gas usage and also to protect the environment from polutions. Kuwait population is drastically growing and despite the fact we have high ways but they are still crouded at the rush hours. Our roads are turning to Egypt roads if anybody have been in that part of the world! it's really crazy! Last edited by ChuppyGirl; 06-08-2006 at 01:56 AM. |

since we will have our truck on the road within the next few weeks i have been keeping an eye on the gas pricesl. Now i don't know litres from gallons or whatever. I just know that the signs are at about .92cents and over. I guess that;s a litre. Anyway, last summer it went over $1.25 a litre (or whatever). So as much as i love driving i can see that our truck will not be used for joy riding this summer. Hopefully the gas price will do the same this coming winter as it did last and drop to a failrly reasonable price. Roo says not to worry to much about it we will be fine and the truck is good on gas but i still worry. That's cool Doc, that you spend less time and are getting more for your money. We won't tell, promise.

Living where I do in Jersey I have to drive a lot to get anywhere too. We have an SUV too so that makes it worse, but I will admit that when I hit my first deer I was glad to be driving the gas hog instead of a little tin car. When I hit the deer I knew it was official that I was a Jersey Girl...lol. Now I just need to buy the T-shirt to go with it. I have a friend that I talk to online from India and he told me that where he lives they just had a strike to protest the rising prices in petroleum and none of the shops were open. He also says that they are doing it again next week. I don't know that it will help matters but I guess it is worth a shot. I wish that the US would take the measures to help us be more independant Oil wise in the future. Even if it would take years to see any real relief, at least then the years would be behind them... but that is just my opinion. Janae |
