Default Oprah's show today

Did anyone watch Oprah today? What did you think?
I thought that it was very interesting and I can certainly see how easy it would be to have an addiction transference. I feel like I need a map or directions on how to become "normal" (satisfied with me).

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Of all days I didnt get to work out today at the Y and watch Operah. I had a hair appoitment. But my girlfreind called me and asked if I had watched. I told her no and why and then she told me about it. Operah had something on like this before about the transfer addiction. It was very interesting. So like I said, every other day I work out and watch Operah and missed it today.

I can honestly say that some of my friends and family mention to me that my new "issue" or addiction is me getting in my exercise. I am obsessed with majing sure I do something every day. I only work out for like 45 minutes but I feel that if I dont get it in Im gonna fall off the wagon so I guess that is why I am obsessed.

I can definltey see why it happens to people. People like us who used food as their additciton cant do that now, or we get sick, so they switch to something else. The show I saw showed people who drank, gambled, did drugs, and shopped. One lady even went off the deep end with sex. You just replace your old addiction with something else. I can deifntley see why people in our shoes can get involved in this.
Should be something they discuss before hand with us I feel. My surgeons office never mentioned it to me.

I saw the show today...yes it was a rerun btw.... Personally I really get into shows like that one as well as the biggest loser...big medicine ..etc ! The only thing that amazed me with this show is the one lady that said she was addicted to booze ! She said she drank 20 beers in 1 sitting ! Excuse me but I found that a little hard to believe ...if you think about it a new pouch holds up to 1 to maybe 4 or 5 onces ( please correct me if Im wrong )...if she does 20 beers wouldnt that just blow the pouch all to crap ?

That's one I find hard to believe too Jerry! shoot..half a wine cooler and I'm wayyyyy relaxed and halfway to sleep!

but I have talked to many people post op who do find that the 'drunk' wears off as quick as the it comes on and will go out and drink a lot..but these are people who before surgery drank quite a bit too.

Pre-op it's during the required therapy appt that this subject should be discussed more about. Our surgeon's office, at least when I had my surgery talked rather frankly about this kind of thing in the surgeon's, RN-lead support group.

Yes, it's possible to get in 20 beers in one sitting. Even if your pouch is small, the stoma--opening of your pouch to the intestines-- though only half an inch or so wide, is always open, so liquids will just flow through your pouch. That's the reason drinking during a meal is a no no for bypass patients, the liquid will push the food out of your pouch.

I have a very good friend that this happened to...she had bypass 5 years ago...and now, she is a total alcoholic....I sat before surgery and watched her drink nearly 2 pitchers of beer by herself....I was floored. She can't stop once she starts....I'm sure her pouch is stretched...and she's gained nearly 40 pounds back.....so very sad...to have gone thru ALL of this....and now struggle with another addiction...it's a defininte case of transfer....

In Aug. I bought a pack of cigs. I used to smoke on a very casual basis many moons ago. I was on vacation in Aug. and everyone around was smoking. WELL. BIG mistake.
A habit developed very quickly. I had to have a cig. I didn't want one but had to have one. I knew this was some "stuff" working from no longer being able to "stuff" with food. It was actually rather creepy and difficult to stop. I sure was a wake up call though and opened a Pandora's box of possible trouble.
It's been a month since I'm "clean". Exercise helps a lot. If I have to be addicted to something I want to make certain it is something positive.
