Default How Many Meals?

OK I SAW MY SURGEON TODAY AND HE TELLS ME TO START WORKING ON JUST EATING 3 MEALS A DAY BECAUSE EVENTUALLY WHEN WE GET OUR APPETITES BACK & EAT MORE AT ONE SITTING AND WE ARE EATING LIKE 5 OR 6 MEALS A DAY WE WILL GAIN WEIGHT. BUT I HARDLY GET 700 OR 800 CALORIES IN NOW AND TODAY I FOUND IT HARD TO STICK TO JUST 3 MEALS. IS HE RIGHT IS THIS A BAD HABIT FOR THE FUTURE?

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

hmmm. i dont think so. the thing is, if we remain active, 6 small meals a day is about right even for a normal person. i dunno....good question though.

I have heard that it's better to eat more small portions of healthy foods than 3 big meals a day. Did he want you to pick traditional meals 3 x day and 3 healthy snacks?

I was ALWAYS on 3 meals....I ate 2 and drank 1 to start...then started eating 3....I rarely snack, and if I do, it's protein or yogurt....my surgeon didn't agree with the 6 or 7 meals a day, so he started us out the way he wanted us to end up...!

You need to keep in mind, after the first year is over, or for those who take longer, after a year and half to two or more, your appetite will come back up, and you will be able to eat more than for the birds that you are doing now.
Also, from a different angle, you need to train your pouch to take more, bit by bit, so as not to get into a grazing habit.
So, you will need to do as YOUR surgeon says for YOUR pouch to keep track. If you have trouble with the 3 meals and no snacking etc, you need to talk it over with him as many times as it takes for you to feel comfortable about this.

Yes Some Days I Find It Hard!!! But I Just Remembered Also I Told Him When I Do Have A Snack I Eat Like A Pickle Which Has No Calories Or Shrimp. He Said On The Days I Really Need It That Was Ok Because These Items Have No Fat Or Calories. He Def Doesnt Want Me To Have Pretzels, Cheese Etc. He Said Cheese Is Good For You To Have At A Meal Now But Later On If All You Eat Is Cheese Esp In The Bigger Volume We Will Take In That Wouldnt Be A Wise Choice All The Time.

So Once In A While If I Really Need It Like Today I Had A Pickle And Later In The After Noon I Had A Few Shrimps. Hey If It Dont Have Fat Or Much Calories Then I Dont See The Harm As Long As I Stick With This Type Of Choice, Dont You Think. I Mean Really A Pickle Has Like 5 Calories. Lol

personally I can't do the 3 meals a day. My blood glucose levels drop off sharply if I go beyond 4 hrs maximum and I'll crash really badly. But remember I also only have a 1oz pouch that has never stretched but also have the large stoma opening. so my food goes right into the small intestine so my 'sensation of fullness' is lower down. this tends to make my food pass on through a lot quicker than most.

the most success I had was sticking hard with the 6 meals a day or every 2-3 hrs like clock work, balancing the water in between.

Plus what I have found is when I cut back and don't eat every couple hours and realize that I've only eaten like 2 or 3 times I will GAIN.
