Default question for doc

i dont post much but i read everyday. My surgery was scheduled for Jan. 18th and my husbands was to be Jan. 4th. Well after our preop appts., they cancelled his surgery cuz his blood work showed his tryclicerides to be 1500 and our doctor wont do surgery unless they are 600 or lower. She said that his number was similar to that of an ancholic or someone who ate chocolate 24/7--neither of which he does. She said that it must be genetic. So they put him on medication and I got him Fish oil capsules to take. Do you have any other suggestions to help lower the tryclicerides??? They have switched our surgeries now so I am going on the 4th and he will be the 18th as long as his blood work a couple days before shows his numbers to be good. That is giving the medication approx. a month to take effect.

Sorry so long,

Beth

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Congratulations on both your dates.

Wow, that is very high. The normal range is below 150, so his is 10 times that.
You can lower triglycerides by exercise, as that is one of the first fats that are broken down for energy.
Triglycerides can go up just by ingesting excessive calories, especially carbs, as carbes that can't store in our body as carbs because the body has already hit the limit for carbs, will be changed into triglycerides to be stored. I hope he is not doing the *last supper* thing as that will definitely make the TG go up. Instead, start on regulating both your diets, limiting your intake and concentrating on protein and water the way you need to post op.

((((((HUGS))))) May your journey go well.

Thanks Doc. We will work on those suggestions. He had not been doing the "last supper" exactly but nor had he been watching too closely either.

I used to have a high level myself but nothing quite that high. Im wondering if mabye just mabye somthing isnt right with that one test? Its a possiblity? They put me on Tricor, fish oil and Vitamin B. Im a firm beliver that certian medications can run it up to. I know one month I had mine checked, It was fine. At the three month mark they checked them again, Why? I dont know but they did. They was sky high then. I had started taking a arthritis medication. Celebrex. My hubby right now deals with high Triglycerides. He also takes Celebrex and never had trouble with it until then. He has no option but to take the medication for arthritis.
