Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

I DOUBT there are studies i just know "MOST" surgeons in the US
recomment no DIET soda. EARLY out those bubbles will hurt in your delicate
healing pouch. I know its a very debated topic...I have given up the diet soda because i just really dont need all those chemcial and garbage there
made from. I do know the ingredients in the soda are like carbs and are evil and will trigger more eating and even will cause people to stall. I guess a splenda sweetended would help there but still no guarantees.

I dont touch the stuff some have even said it stretches the pouch but i Know there is no proven study, as someone asked that at my surgeons information seminar recently when i was there.

My nutritionist told me a cup of coffee is ok. Caffeine is a little dehydrating, so if you do drink it, you should have extra water.

As for diet soda, i have a little bit once in a while. The bubbles, like Lisa said, are a bit rough on the pouch. I feel bloated after I drink it, so I don't drink too much. It does not taste the same to me anymore anyway.

I cannot live without my morning coffee. And, I often have a second cup with protein in it later in the afternoon.

Have a good day, pal. S

Medically speaking, caffeine is a central nerve stimulant. It excites a lot of the nerves, increasing the activities of many organs and among other things, act as a diuretic (stimulate urination) as SHH says. It can irritate your digestive system as well. One cup hours apart may be fine, but consecutive cups would not be.
As for carbonated drinks, there are contradictory opinions. Just opinions, I haven't run across any valid studies. However, soda pops seem to be "addictive" and it can trigger your old bad habits by association, and get in the way of your developing new and healthy food habits, so if you can stay away from them, the better it is. Even the diet kind.

I cannot do a morning without some caffeine. Usually one cup does it........though it is a large cup. When I treat myself to Dunk. Donuts, it is usually a medium. Now, sometimes in the afternoon, I need another cup to keep me going. That is the one i usually add some protein to so I don't feel so guilty.

I love my coffee. S

Question Hmmmmm...

My Doc said no sodas of any kind....to stay away from carbonation. I've heard that the caronation is not good for you...or your new young pouch. He did say that "possibly" later...12m + ..... some can drink cabonation then...but he would not recoommend it.

As far as caffeine....I'd listen to Doc...she has a TON of great info. I still drink my coffee....but, decaf.

Shelley...what you said about your taste changing on the sodas...I feel I don't feel or think the same about coffee.

I used to be a FREAK for COFFEE....I'm not quite sure why it is differnent now.

I am drinking the ADVANT EDGE (low carb) protein drinks...and love the Mocha Latte...and Caramel Coffee. So, this may satisfy the coffee craving...I don't know.

not that i want to encourage soda drinking, have changed and lost my cravings for it (mostly) but i have seen advertised on tv comercials for either pepsi or coke made with splenda. That was awhile back now that i think of it and haven't seen any lately, but i've also been watching less tv.

cofee, never been a big cofee drinker to begin with used to do one cofee or one hot chocolate drink in the morning and have changed this to green tea.

I drank a fair amount of splenda sweetened Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi pre op and liked it a lot. I have not had soda since surgery due to not wanting to stretch my pouch, but I think that caffeine in small amounts would probably be okay as long as you drink plenty of fluids to counteract the caffeine. Ask your surgeon if all else fails.
