Now don't get me wrong, I am just tickled pink to be wearing sizes 14 & 16 and I wouldn't change a thing -- but I got into Size 14 jeans at 202 Lbs; while it has been quite some time since I was in this size I seem to remember weighing less the last time I was in a size 14 -- like around 160 Lbs or something.

Have sizes changed that much? I mean if it keeps going like this and I get even close to my goal weight of 150 I might be looking at a size 8 or 10 -- I HAVE NEVER in all my life (well maybe when I was a little kid) but not since I was ten years old -- have I been in anything smaller than a Size 12?

And what's up with Size O? I don't remember that ever being a size -- of course I haven't been able to shop in the regular clothes sizes for quite some time but geeeezzzz!

Again, I'm not complaining, I love the fact that I will NEVER AGAIN have to wear "Womens" or "Plus" sizes and I love the fact of my shrinking waist and hips (although I wish my boobs would start shrinking more) but I'm just wondering if sizes have actually been made "bigger" over time and the new Size 0 was really a Size 4 when last I was in a Size 12??

Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

That's what it seems. I read an article once about this, but I can't remember the details. They were just talking about how today's sizes are much more generous. So a size 6 from 40 years ago would defintely be a smaller size now. They were also saying how models are so thin to look like a 'hanger' for the clothes. And celebs are complaining because they used to get the freebie sample clothes, but now the sizes are much smaller - hence feeling to fat, etc..., etc...

Tell me about it...I'm wearing 10's/12's now.....and at goal, will I be in a 4? I can remember back after my daughter was born, I was at 151...wearing size 8's...I should be 8's by next month....How does that work?

Arrow Okay!!

...Here I go...

Speaking from the "DESIGNER" -- (I've been designing women's apparel for the last 16+ years...just in case you didn't know - or were wondering if I was legit! LOL!!)

So...

FIRST -- in 1991 things were quite different....my fit model was a size 8....and my mannequin was likewise. Now....my fit model is a size 6....mannequin is 'called' a size six but the measurements are the SAME as the size 8 all those years ago!

SECOND -- every size has an additional 1/2" for sizes 0-10....and an addition 3/4" on 12-16 in the Missy line. Then in plus sizes it's MUCH MUCH more!! I did Plus size for about a year for Coldwater Creek....ugh...that was a challenge....they wouldn't let us be creative...and keep us in such a SLUMP!! yuck.... LOL.

Jill for me when I was going down in sizes I had several sizes from 10 years ago. The sizes from then were definately different from todays sizes. My size 14's were = to size 10's from today. I now wear a size 6 at 150 but when I was 150 in high school I was a size 14

I have noticed this also, I am at a size 18, one pair of 16's fit now too, but when I was last even an 18, I weighed 180, in 1990, now I am 245 and wearing 18????? The sizes HAVE to have changed for this to be working for me today!

Jill way to go girl!!

Kenya
I used to wear 32 and dropped size to 10! and very close to wear one digit clothes! this is really interesting!

I wore the teen numbers for a long while and I'm so excited once I went down to 10!

Jill I don't know about the sizes if they have jumped down or up becoz it's my first experience in my entire adulthood life!

Happy losing ladies, and be beautiful and sexy.

Hanadi

Let me tell you my experience.

A few years ago, I bought here, a pair of pants (or trousers in Brit English) by an Italian brand that has shops world wide, and the size tags on their clothing is world wide as well--in other words, they have all the representative sizes on one tag, so you know what your size is in several country's designations. Later on, the same season, I was in the US, and walked into the brand shop, where they were having a sale. I happened to find a pair of the same pants in a different color. The size tag said the pants were a couple of sizes smaller than my size. The store clerk recommended this pair to me, but I declined, saying, it's not my size. Well, she talked me into trying it on, at least, so I did. Lo and behold, it fit!!! As a matter of fact, it was the exact same fit as my other one. So, I was going like Well, anyway, I did buy it, and I took it to the store I'm a regular customer here, to have the length adjusted. The store clerk here compared the actual size of the pants, and looked at the size tags, and was
I am never going to by any clothes anywhere, unless I can try them on first, this experience made me suspicious of size tags

Incidentally, I believe this type of thing is called vanity sizing.

is that why is some stores we are a smaller size than in others? old navy for example is cut WAY BIGGER than any other clothing store plus their jeans stretch. but the number on the tag is smaller...? vanity sizing? hmmm
