| It has been a little trying at my house this week. I got a call Sunday night and my DH was being rushed from a football game he had gone to and they told me to meet them at the ER at the closest hospital. They told me he was unresponsive and didn't know what was wrong. To make a long story short, he ended up staying in the hospital for 2 days and they diagnosed him as being a Type 2 diabetic. He has to check his blood sugar level often. So, last night, I thought I would let him check mine just to see what it was. I remember a friend of mine checking it about a year ago, and then it was over close to 300. (I can't believe I was never a diabetic). Last night when he checked it, it was 87 and the normal range is 90-120. My DH looked at me and said, "girl, you are doing great". He even calls me skinny all the time. I can't wait until I do hit the "skinny" range.

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Christy, Oh my gosh, what a scare! The same thing happened with my 3 year old nephew last year. It scared us to death. His ended up being Type 1 though. He was so high he should have been in a coma. He spent a week in ICU. It is so scary. I hope your husband is feeling better now. I guess you are not the only one in the family now getting used to a new lifestyle. At least you are already trained to help him learn a better way of eating and exercising. You will be a big help to him. Congratulations on your low sugars. That is so great. I can't believe what a difference our new lifestyle makes with all the numbers. Before surgery I was on blood pressure medicane, cholesterol medicane and estrogen. Now I don't take any of it. It is so awesome! |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | I'm so glad DH is OK...does he struggle with his weight too? Obesity is a HUGE contributor to diabetes. It's one of the main reasons I had surgery...I have it coming at me from both sides of my family. It's good to know yours is normal...my DH is calling me skinny all the time too!! |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Christy I'm so glad that your husband is doing better - that's scary. I just wanted to tell you that I'm a RN and I have to say that if your blood sugar back then was in the 300 range - you were diabetic, you just might not have been diagnosed with it. A non-diabetic person does not have blood sugar levels that high. I once read an article that said that more than half of the people with diabetes don't even know it. Your blood sugar levels may have been normal sometimes before, so it was probably missed, but no mistake, you were a diabetic. So congrats on the great blood sugar levels now!!!!!!!!!!!

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | What a scarey experience, hope things get better. Yay on your numbers, yes, I have also heard that most people don't get diagnosed as diabetic and they are. I strongly suspect that I was or was borderline before GBS.
