Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | My primary doctor got in contact with the surgeon about the amount of weight he wanted me to lose before surgery, I haven't even come close to the 40 to 50lbs he wanted me to lose. As a matter of fact I've probably gained some. I lost 27 lbs at the most then gained that all back last time I was able to check. Its bad enough the anticipation of waiting for the operation, then the nerves and the people who love you are always just as nervous as you are but I've put this surgery off 2 times now because I haven't been able to meet the weight loss my surgeon wants. If my surgeon makes me put this off again, I'm done with the whole thing. By the way, he told my primary that it was obvious I wasn't sincere about the life change because I haven't lost the weight on my own first.ARGHHHHHHHHH!!! Thank all of you for being so great with questions and support, but I'm afraid this isn't going to happen for me.

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | awww fishy how much longer do you have? you have look deep inside yourself and answer this question. do you want and need this? whatever your answer is go for it. you know we support you. if you feel this is truly the end of the road, we support that too. either way let us know how it turns out. ![]() |

| Super Moderator | ((((HUGS)))) You do need to think this out yourself, though. The problem here is, not that you weren't able to lose as much as your surgeon required, but the fact that you gained it all back. This means that there is something in your eating pattern that needs to be looked at, to insure maximum weight loss after surgery. What comes post op is years and years and years of commitment. Much longer than what you need to keep up with right now. Granted, post op, the commitment will be made easier in some ways, but in other ways, it can be harder than now. Once you can resolve that, I'm sure you'll be able to show your commitment to your surgeon. Whatever you decide, stick around with us, you may yet find a way. Hang in there.

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Thanks Doc, I really want to do this. I work for a company that rents barriatric beds, among other equipment to hospitals and other care facilities. I see people who are over 500 lbs and in horrible condition. When a call comes in and I have to deliver a bari-bed or a hoist to weigh someone I almost cry every time. The solution is out there and I am so close, if this doesn't happen I don't know what I'll do.

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | The doctor wanted me to loose right around 40 pounds before surgery and he send me to another doctor for weight loss. I was on Opitfast diet for 3 months. For the first month I was on only veg. except for corn and peas and, 4 protein opitfast drinks, one protein optifast bar & I could have the opitfast soup then the next month and a half I was on the same veg. and only 3 to 4 oz. of meat a day. And then I was on 4 optifast drinks and one optifast bar and then I had to omit the soup becasue if the meat. The last 2 weeks I stayed with strickly the optifast protein drinks and the one protein bar and the last 4 days or so before my surgery I stayed strickly with the 6 protein shakes. On the day of my surgery I lost 36 pounds and the doctor said I did a terrific job losing the weight. It was so hard becasue I had to cook normal meals for my husband but I made him eat alone lots of times becasue it was just so hard to watch him eat. When he ate his meal I kept myself ocupied. I got very creative with the veg. and the soups also. I added salsa to the soups and only about a tablespoon of cream with no carbs and a little ketchup and that was good. I wanted that surgery so bad becasue I was so sick of all my weight and could not hardly do anything anymore. I stuck to it and my surgery was suppose to be Aug.6th but the doctor wanted me to loss more weight just so the surgery would be safer for me. I did it and they said that it was just enough weight that I lost to have the safer surgery. I would do it again in a heat beat becasue with the 100 pounds gone I feel so wonderful and am full of energy. Just feel so good all around. Keep trying and when you get the weight off you are suppose to, you will be so happy with the sugery and its results.

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | I felt the same way about the presurgery weight loss because I had already proven to myself that I couldn't feep the weight off. But the doctor was right, I needed to be able to demonstrate that I would be able to stick to a diet plan after the surgery in order to be successful. The surgery doesn't immediately take away all the cravings for the foods we loved and abused. If you haven't been in the mindset of watching what you eat and making good food choices for a period before your surgery, you will be in a difficult place after the surgery. For one thing, you will be trying to wean yoursef off a high carb diet at a time when you already don't feel well because of surgery. Your "head hunger" will be at full strength and it will cause you to feel depressed and deprived when you can't eat it. Believe me, it will be much easier on yourself if you begin the good eating habits now. Follow your doctors eating plan and get yourself in the best possible position, both physically and mentally, before you go in for surgery. It is the beginning of a new way of life that you will follow for the rest of your life and it will be so worth it. When you need support just come here. There are always plenty of great people to give advice or a gentle nudge to help keep us on track. We will all do all we can to help you reach your goal. We want you on the losing side! |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | I'm really sorry that you're having such a hard time. I know from my life's experience that diet's don't work for me and I was glad that my doctors office does their own pre-op diet thing to help patients lose weight. I do 5 medifast shakes a day and in 4 weeks I lost 27 lbs. I also can have a cup of chicken broth at night (low sodium) and thankfully it's worked for me and I've stuck with it. No cheating! That's NEVER happened to me in my life, but my eye is on the prize. Have you spoken with your doctor about a medically supervised drastic weight loss plan specialized for you? My diet is 450 cals a day - that's pretty drastic! Stay strong and keep your head up - your day will come!
