Can anyone tell me what the average number of fat grams and carbs are that we should get in a day? And how many is too many? Thanks for any advice!!

The number of grams of fat and carbs are relative to the total amount of calories you are getting in. The ratio in calories should be about 25% protein, 30% fat, and 45% carbs. In reality, there is a range with each if these ratios, and what I have written here is the middle of the range for protein and fat. and the low end of carbs. The high end of protein is 35% which will put fat at 20%, which is the low end for fat. Computed into grams, a 1000 kcal diet is: Protein 62.5g (at 25% -- at 35% = 87.5g) Fat 33.3g (at 30%-- at 20%=22.2g, the high end of fat is 35%=38.8g) Carb 112.5g (the high end for carbs is 60%=150g)

I understand the math, but I avoid the carbs and fat like crazy...my fat grams are usually between 10-15...and carbs...maybe 50-75!

On my fitday journal for today, I will have 650 calories, 24 fat grams, 51 carbs and 52 grams of protein. How does that look, Doc?

| Super Moderator | In calories, that's about a third each from each nutrients. Not so bad, but considering that the basice rule for post ops is 60g protein, you should acheive that first, and balance out the other nutrients later. Which means, you need to reduce a few grams of carbs and a few grams of fat and add them to protein to make the 60g portein quota.
