Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | I was a little disappointed by one of Oprah's comments. There was a girl at the end who lost 130lbs without surgery and Oprah told her what an 'inspiration' she was. Then she had 4 other people on who'd had surgery (2 bands, 2 bypass's) and one was 4-5 years out and maintaining and she didn't say anything like that to them. The difference was that the other 4 had dieted, were active and done stuff like crazy - like all of us - to no avail and the last resort was surgery. This girl who lost it without surgery, that diet was her first diet ever. If the others' diets had worked, they wouldn't have needed surgery either. I just hate that soooo many people feel that this is the easy way out and anyone who loses it the other way is amazing! You can regain after surgery! It's just a tool! The other kids eat right and exercise and work hard to maintain too. Sadly I guess it's just everyone's mind set.

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | I agree with greensgirl comment completely. I feel the other people should have gotton the same response as the girl that did it on her own. Those that had weight loss surgery worked hard to get there weight off also. The show kinda disppointed me. Oprah always seemed to find some kinda excuse for someone to try it on there own and did she realize they all tried before surgery. For all people she should have understood best of all. I have watched her for many many years and she has gone up and down so many times in her own weight and that is so unhealthy to do.

I expected Oprah to be more anti-surgery... she made a few comments that were uneducated (we can only eat 6 grapes?), but I don't think she was trashing WLS... she just isn't fully informed. The fact that she featured WLS on her show at all is a sign that perhaps she doesn't think it's a horrible thing. Maybe she's thinking about having it herself...
