Default Just can't seem to win...

Or even feel better for that matter..man I was starting to finally feel a little better, and actually wanting to get up and join the world again. Then the blues hit me, but last time I went on mood meds, all I could think about was death so I stopped them quickly. Then I started to have pain when I pee'd (TMI) right at the urethra open, like someone was holding a fire to me OUCH!!!! Even tried getting in the shower to pee. So I had hubby get me some cranberry juice and some bottle water cause I had been slacking on my water. This was saturday day...drank drank..Then Sunday the pain in the lower area is worse and I just do not even try to pee, even though it was like I had to, Sunday even pain is now going into my back area, I knew something with kidneys, had an infection before and remember the pain. So at 11:30pm up to the ER we go. Get there they hook me up to fluid, pain meds, x-ray, and CT. I just knew they were going to keep me. Doc says its kidney stones, its a small one only 4mm and only has about an inch to travel till its in the bladder and I wont feel it good thing, bad thing I have four more. I asked about not being told I had them two weeks ago when I had a CT, I guess if they do a contrast CT with the dye they can not see them..... Why is that Doc? so its better for now but I will go through it again....Doc isn't there a medication that will disolve them??? thanks for all the well wishes another good thing was weight was at 135.6. Doc in ER was very impressed with my loss, she asked how much I weighed before and I told her and she say " and now you weight a whole 135 soaking wet"..lol that was cool....she also said that 3 out of 5 people she knows that had it have not been able to maintain the life style, I have not met one person that, it has happen to although I know it happens....I also asked about my TOM I have not had it since August, but I do not have insurance so I could not see a doctor (last two surgeries now over 100k) she said to try a herbal something but I could not remember it anyone ever heard of it or tried it, I really need to get back on track....vacation is over...lol

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

(((((((HUGS))))))
First off, I hope you are feeling better now.

1) Contrast CT. If the stones are calcium stones, then they show up in the plain XPs and CTs. Now, if there is a stone, with contrast CT, the stone will show up as a dark spot because the contrast media will *avoid* the object. However, if the object has a certain density that shows up in plain XPs, then that means, if the density is close to the density of the contrast material, then the two shadows will merge, and the stone not show up.

2) There's a medication to dissolve them, yes, but it isn't an instant effect, it takes months, so, if the stones are small, then it's better to use meds that prevent constriction of the ureter--the tube from your kidney to the bladder-- and drink lots of water so that they pass out. Taking meds to prevent further stones is a good idea, though, if you've been plagued by them in the past.

Calcium stones and uric acid stones are the two most common types of kidney stones. The components can be anlysed, and the most appropriate medication prescribed. The major difference between calcium stone and uric acid stones is that calcium shows up in plain XPs, but uric acid stones do not.
Kath's dad was put on alloprinol because 1) he was diagonosed for uric acid stones from the above reasons and 2) his blood uric acid level was probably high, even if he never experienced gout attacks.

I'm glad you're feeling better, but I'm sorry you're going through this. My dad always gets kidney stones and always has to have lithotripsy. Any stone is painful, so I hope the other ones pass easier.
