Actually, I never was. The same psychological defect that doomed me to be an engineer worked for me this time. I had done my research, gathered and analyzed the necessary data, weighed my options (truly a "do or die" situation ), and so I was quite calm about the whole deal as I walked through the tunnels of Minneapolis from the hotel to the hospital 2 days after Christmas at 5:00 AM while Peanut slept on back in the room.

I knew there would a month or so of inconvenience, but I was ready to take that as the price to be paid. I was right, and as I've said elsewhere, it was worth it. But I went calmly to the prep area and let them do their thing.

I understand this may not be the normal situation, but then again, I've never been accused of being normal, either!

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Amazingly I was not scared at all. I had done my research and knew this was right for me. My husband had commented after my surgery about how calm and relaxed I was.

I was scared on and off about a week or two before. Kept thinking, oh no is this right for me or not. I think trufully I was more afraid of loosing my friend--food and my good old diet coke. Those things and thought of not having them again is what really went thru my mind. But then I had to stop and think no I need to do this. I need to get healthy and change my life.
The wierd thing is that morning that I walked into the hospital to wait to be called back this calm came over me and I was fine. Best thing I ever did in my life for my self and my family.

I alternated between afraid and calm - like anything else, you keep talking to yourself...
Then the morning of I just felt calm - I guess my mind had finally found a place where is was like "ok, this is what I'm doing."

I was not scared either. The weeks leading up to the surgery I was excited and couldn't wait. The day of I was ready to go get it done. The only thing that bothered me was the fact that I wouldn't be able to drink anything until the next day after the pouch was x-rayed. Had I known what wonderful drugs they would give me I wouldn't have even given that an extra thought.

They told me even in the OR before I was put out I was cracking jokes. Before I got the pre op relaxation meds I met a nurse who told me she would be by my side the whole time during surgery and recovery until I was able to go back to my room. I think that helped even more for me to know that I had made the right decision.

I was only scared the day before surgery...when I really thought about the major alteration to my body... didn't deter me though and I would do it all over again!

Ok, I'm an engineer too and boy and I armed with information! Probably too much! But that has helped me keep calm. I am 10% scared, 40% calm and 50% excited. It makes for a very interesting personality. I'm alternately bouncing around, chewing my nails, or being normal (whatever that is). As far as being scared, I had a friend put it well for me: "You've been through natural childbirth and cancer treatments. This can't be worse!"
I'm READY!!
