I've really enjoyed reading how everyone handled thier own personal journey information.
I orignally started this process back in 2008, a few months after my marriage. I was going to have the lap band. Only told my Mom, husband, daughter and a co-worker. They were all on board. My Mom had wanted to mention it to me, but was afraid of hurting my feelings. After 9 months of classes and Dr appointments, I couldn't quit smoking.
Fast forward to Septmeber 2010... I mentioned to a long time friend and she told me she was having the GBP surgery in October. It still took a while for me to go back and had to start all over. Harder this time, since I gained 20 more lbs. My mother-in-law has been very negative.. telling me all the horror stories, I've choosen with my Surgeon GBP. My old co-worker was very worried.. But for some reason, my Mother-in-law is telling EVERYONE what I'm doing, I've been blind sided more than once by people telling me what they have heard. Husband felt the need to tell people at his work, including his boss, who is very supportive, but I'm not thrilled so many know.
Daughter was ok when I wanted the Lap band, but she's not very happy about the GBP, but I tell her, it's much better for me to go this way because of my Diabates.

MIL still gives me a hard time, but I finally straight out told her, I'm having this done, I'm doing it my way, no matter what anyone else has to say.

I wish I hadn't told anyone except hubby and daughter... Oh well...

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

I have told pretty much everyone. Everyone that I have told has been very supportive. I only had one person question me about having to lose weight beforehand to be able to have the surgery. He wanted to know why I didn't just keep losing on my own. I explained that as with most of us that decide to have WLS I have tried on my own and have been unsuccessful. WLS is not effective on its own. It is a tool that must be used properly in order to be successful.

Now that this post has been resurrected - I told anyone who would listen. Probably not before, although I was pretty open about it, but afterwards, I told anyone who asked. I still do. My mom was worried, but I'd done my homework and I knew what I was getting into before I told her, so I just told her that I was doing it and no one was going to change my mind. Period.

I figured that if someone hadn't told me about theirs, I would've never known about the possibilty of having WLS - at least not back then in 1994 - it just wasn't popular then. It was only because she told me that I did anything to pursue it. So I try to return that favor by being totally open about it so that if anyone wants to consider it, they can feel free to ask me whatever they want to know...
