Mornin everyone!
Todays poll: What was that one thing that made you cross the line to wls?
me? 2 things,i got up one morning and my joints hurt so bad i cried,i had started staying in my room all the time also, because it was getting hard to find clothes that fit.It was a very dark time for me.Wls was my light at the end of the tunnel.Now the joints no longer hurt and i have more clothes than i need.What was yours?

I guess it was running up and downstairs in my home and feeling like i was gonna drop dead of a heart attack or stroke. I was so out of breath from doing that it scared me !!! NOW i can run up and down a million times and im fine!!! and like you christy crying when i had nothing to wear and couldnt find clothes that fit and i guess covered my tummy.
so it helped me out tons.

For me it was not being able to do anything without. gasping for air. I couldn;t even walk to the mailbox. That coupled with the sudden onset of type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and bad choloesterol.
The main thing though was my doctor telling me that if i kept going the way I was, I wasn't going to be around for as long as I should be.
I am a 3 year newlywed and this scared the heck out of me. Not to mention that I went through all the fertility clinic hoops, just short of ivf and no luck.
I'm happy to say that even at this short time out of wls I am off all of my meds with exception of half a bp pill. Course I traded them for vitamins and birth control pills  but I'll take that trade any day!

There was a couple of things for me. First, my feet hurt so bad I could hardly walk, I couldn't stand up straight when I would get out of bed in the morning they hurt so bad. Second, my asthma, I could go nowhere or do anything without my inhaler. And the final straw was a week before Christmas I had a major gallbladder attach and was very sick in the hospital until the day before Christmas. I didn't have all of my shopping done for my kids and thought they were going to be shortchanged for Christmas. Two days after Christmas I had my gallbladder taken out. At that point, I decided I was killing myself and refused to leave my kids without their mother. So I started my journey for WLS. Within 6 months I was having surgery. It was the best thing I have done for myself as well as my children. I thank God everyday for the second chance at life he has given me.

HEY MICHELE,
in reading your post i see we have alot in common.
I have gone thru the fertility hoops myself.
I never did IVF as my insurance would not have paid for it
so took my dollars and adopted. THAT was a guarantee for my
money unlike IVF. I did loose weight 4 years ago 100 lbs and
got pregnant with my first bilogical child. SO the weight loss
my help you out in all good time.

my deciding factor was easter shopping. i wanted something cute for easter this year. NO CUTE FAT CLOTHES!!!! I shopped for hours, everything I tried on was awful. My legs misshapped, i feel bad most of the time because of my joints and knees. I don't want my kids to be ashamed of their mom...

Well it was many things for me.............
1- My stomach was eat up in ulcers....It was where i couldnt eat much of anything without taking a bunch of stomach pills before and after,,,,,,,I was taking 3, 150mg pills in the am and 3 in the pm to sleep with out reflux.....
2- My knees, where/are so bad i had 2 surgery on the right and 1 on the left, and my hips i have a birth defect, and my left side, waste down is turning in, and the weight was making it turn faster, and the pain.......... My feet geezzzzeeee i had 3 surgerys on my left food and where it is turned in so bad they want to break my foot, and reline it........OUCH!!! NO WAY!!!!!
3- I wanted to be pretty, i wanted to buy clothes, that was pretty.........I wanted to feel pretty,,,,,,,,I want to have fun, i wanted to go to Kings island and ride the rides again..........I want my depression to leave and i think this will help.............

My deciding factor was turning 40 and feeling like I was one foot in the grave. I couldn't hardly breathe, I was getting chest pains all the time, I couldn't participate with my family in any active weekends and I want to do things before the end of my time. My feet would hurt so bad they were making me wobble.
Now I'm 6 weeks post op.

After 5 or 6 years of thinking about it and pretty much deciding that it wasn't for me, I found myself somewhere between being in the worst shape of my life and my 50th birthday. Something had to give.

Many many things.
It was/is getting even harder to find clothes that fit. (How many times have i cried in stores dressing rooms), not bein able to go up and down stairs without being out of breath. Noticing that i wasn't participating in activities that i used to love. I went to see a weight loss specialist and he suggested the surgery as the best way for me to take off the excess weight and keep it off. Finding i have to contort in all sorts of ways just to wipe myself after going potty. I was determined to have the surgery at this point and then saw a wls doctor in Montreal who told me i wouldn't live to see 60 if i didn't lose the weight. I've been lucky that until recently my only actual medical problems were the narcolepsy, and sleep apnea. But then i found out i had type two diabetes and high cholesterol and noticed that i was spending more time sleeping than awake, mostly because there wasn't/isn't much i can do anymore.
