End of year-New Year.
Here, most places of work are closed from Dec. 29 through Jan 3. (Of course, stores and restaurants/eateries are open, but virtually everything is closed on Jan. 1 ) We start preparing for New Year before the holiday starts, and go full speed ahead once the holiday starts. Cleaning the house, bringing out special tableware, cooking special food. Lots of traditions to cover from New Year's Eve to Jan 3. Of course, not all the traditions are kept these days, but it is basically family time, so those who have family go back to their hometowns, and it's the quietest time of the year in Japan, especially in Tokyo.

When I was a kid, it was Christmas. Now, MY favorite holiday for me is New Years. We get a week off work and time to enjoy with the kids and relax.

| Wow.... ...that's a hard one....I usually LOVE October 1st - Jan 1st.... I LOVE halloween now that I'm a mom...never really cared about it until 'Bella was born....now, we have all these fun "Fall" traditions we do. Thanksgiving is sooo nice...It's my birthday usually that weekend. And then from Thanksgiving to Newyears...I LOVE. I don't care about the presents....usually don't get much...but, the 'festivities...the decor....the christmas spirit....the spiritual sybols that are sooo important to me and my family...the 'traditions'....I love the holidays! And I guess that out of the 3 Christmas is my favorite. When I was young...we'd have this thing where everyone would be together on Christmas eve...(all 5 kids...mom & dad) and we'd go to the Christmas eve service at our church...then come home. Momma usually cooked tamales and chili...during the day - so, we'd eat when we got home. Daddy would read the Christmas Story....and we have a 'Christmas Nail' - and a special story...that one of the kids would read...and then Chris, my baby brother would hang the Christmas Nail. Then momma would pass out one present to everyone...they always were pajamas - (it was always fun to see what she got us....and how we all matched somehow...) Then we'd put on our pajamas...and go to the kitchen table and play games....usually Uno when we were young...then skipbo...or Celebrity...then Pictionary. Momma would bake sugar cookies...and then after all the games we'd write a letter to santa....and then decorate the cookies...and off to bed. All of this, we'd be up until about 11 or midnight. Once we all started getting married....the married couples would alternate between inlaws and Momma & Daddy's....Now, there are 3 out of the five of us married...and we haven't been able to do this in a few years....but, Now....Russ and I have started some traditions of our own....and we are excited about this Christmas....and what it will bring!!! So....I guess it's pretty clear....I LOVE CHRISTMAS!!!! |

my favorite holiday is Halloween. I love all the fall decorations, and the change of leaves. Halloween is so much fun with the kiddos.

| Wow, it's been a long time since I've logged on here. I like the new daily poll idea though. Hi gang! Wonder who here even knows me LOL. Ok, I am kind of like Deborah, I like Oct 1 - Jan 1...of course my Thanksgiving is in October so I get to start early. But I would have to say my fave would be Christmas, if I had to choose just one. There's something special about that time of year. Other than the obvious religious reasons for Christmas. There is just something warm and inviting about it all. The colours, the feeling you get from seeing all the lights, candles, decorations, smiles on people's faces. So many reasons to love it.
