| Freaking Out ... Need to Take a Poll.
Hi Everyone - I hope you won't think this is totally stupid but here's my dilemma:
I'm scheduled for my revision from Lap Band to RNY on August 31st. I'm really freaking out that I'm going to fail and just not be able to do everything I need to do. I guess because the Band didn't work for me I'm thinking I won't be able to make the RNY work either.
I pretty much know what I'm in for since I had similar surgery (like eating slow, small bites, no drinking during or after meals (30mins) and not to overeat) but I'm really considering changing my mind because I'm so worried.
I hate being fat, I do want to change, I hate feeling like crap and I want to learn how to be thin again. I'm hoping that this poll will help me make the right choice.

Honey its very seldom you will ever see me say this but here it goes. If you need to have a poll to make a life saving decision for you.... you are not ready.
Maybe putting this off for a while would be a good decison for you. That way you can reseach this more and dig deep into what you really want. I hope you make the right decison for your self.

Remember lap band is very different from rny. My surgeon asked me one question when we were maiking the decision between the two. Do you like sweets? I said yes, then she said well then rny is the only way to go. I have had my ups and downs but in the end it was the perfect decision. I have had not problems. I love the new me!

| I get what they're saying ~ I specifically didn't choose the lapband because I knew I'd fail ~ I knew I'd cheat. You will be most successful if you're ready for the "life changing" not just undergoing a procedure. Have you done your psych eval yet? This may be a good time to talk it through with a professional to be sure you're really ready ~ hugs ~ the soul searching you are doing shows you're on the right track keep going Whether you have surg now or 3 mos from now ~ you'll know when you're really ready and we're here for ya!

Thank you all so much. I have gone for all my testing and my pysch eval and even my regular therapist knows how I'm feeling. She doesn't think it's so much that I'm not ready, she feels it might be because I'm a perfectionist and the thought of not doing something right AGAIN is panicking me.
Believe me, I've asked myself over and over if I'm ready or not. I say that I am and I feel that I am, but I also know that if I cancel my surgery now, I'll never do it again. Plus, a big thing is that I want to have my band removed and I certainly don't want to do that without having the bypass.
I know this sounds nuts - and Ms. Vickie I hear what you're saying and thank you for being honest. This is why I'm here - I want everyone's input. It does help in making the decision.

Ok honey. You just stating what you did makes me at least feel better in a way you have thought this through. There are several on here that have had the lap then the RNY. They are gonna tell you there is a big differnce in the two. I hope they see this post and will advise you in the differnce. Getting rid of the band I would understand that.

The band and the RNY are such completely different technologies, it's really hard to compare the results of one in light of the other. Just because you ran your bicycle into the hedge, does that mean you should pass up that great deal on a Corvette? (They both help transport you to a place you want to be, don't they? So does WLS in its varieties.)
Keeping the band in you would be counterproductive and a nuisance in terms of RNY, so I'm sure the doc would make sure you didn't have it any more when the operation's over. I have heard that some docs will remove the band, then let the patient heal for a period of time before going in to do the RNY, as they do overlap in the territory affected.
As long as you have your whole medical team on board, I don't think you'll have any problems at all. It may take a bit to get used to the pouch having powers of enforcement, though. By its very nature, that's something the band couldn't do for you.
Whatever you decide, we're on duty standing by to support you.
Take care!
