Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | I am sure Doc will post but she said in a previous post that this can happen since the fat is no longer surrounding the knee to give us a "buffer." I guess it can be pretty common to have problems like this after losing a lot of weight. I have had back problems since I was a teen and since surgery it has been great- until about 1.5 weeks ago it started killing me again. I am sure losing the weight has helped, but it sure hurts like heck and seems the same. I think the damage we do to our bodies is helped by the weight loss, but can't totally be reversed. Just my 2 cents! |

| Super Moderator | For one thing, your knees have been taking some beating for a long time so the damage may be making itself known now. Before, your fatty tissue helped *prop* you up, but now with it gone, the knees have to *stand on its own* so to speak. It might be best to have your knees seen by a specialist before you put any more stress on them, and see if there's something that needs to be done in terms of treatment. Recent studies seem to indicate a higher turnover rate of bone cells during the rapid losing phase post op with weight loss surgeries, so this also may be affecting your bones. In any case, consult with your surgeon or your PCP, and ask for a reference for a specialist, if it interferes with your walking and daily life.
