Talking Found my workout books from day one post op!!

This is so wild, but I found my workout books from the first day we went into the gym post op (my 2nd hubby & I-the trainer)

I had surgery mid may right after my 40th birthday and we were in the gym (after OPEN RNY) August 2,2002

Apparently by that day I'd lost below the 300 lbs mark having started at 355 & having had to return to the hospital for 4 endoscopies (i think I remember the number right) for strictures.

wt that first week in the gym 292<<<-----

our first workout:
bench presses with 8/10/15 lbs wts and reps at 13/7/3
fly press with 10/12/15 lbs wts and reps at 10/6/3
pull downs with 20/30/40 lb wts and reps at 12/8/5
lateral extensions with 3/5/5 lb wts and reps at 8/4/3
rows with 10/20/30 lb wts and reps at 8/6/4
rotational military press with only the EZ bar and reps at 4/4/5
side raises with 3/5/8 lb wts and reps at 10/5/3
shrugs with olympic bar only and reps at 3/6/4
-----------------------------------------------
Next day was legs day!
quad extensions with 30/30/50 lb wts and reps at 10/8/6
hamstring curls with 30/50/50 lb wts and reps at 15/12/6
calf raises --standing on step only no wts..
incline crunches 10/10/10 reps
stomach rocks 3/7/10 reps (martial arts movement--hard!)
incline leg raises 4/4/2
twist with EZ bar no wts and reps at 10/14/11

well girls and boys there is a beginning of the steps to where at -177 lbs walked into Gold's Gym to do the membership thing to train for the CPAT for OCFD (fire dept phys. assessment test) and was measured, and found to have 26% body fat.

It's good to me to find these notebooks. One it gives me some good solid PROFESSIONAL level work outs to use and two it provides a lot of positive reinforcement in where I WAS and where I WENT with the surgery.

Our workouts were 5 days a week, AND each day 25 min walking 7 days a week, sometimes only 6. As I approached a year out I added at the gym after workouts running/jogging time as I lost more and was able to run.

Gosh that man worked me hard but careful! We would work for, if I remember right, 3 weeks then take a partial week off. As I go further out and especially the year later hysterectomy time, we'd work 5 days a week, 3 week then one full week no workouts.

Gosh..I'm so glad I found these! It makes me realize how amazing it is when you were one size and all and then another year later actually be up in WEIGHT but SMALLER in size!

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

oh regarding that last comment...that is actually referring to another year later..as in 2 yrs post op..actually being UP in weight but like 2 sizes smaller and I wish I could find the body fat % measurements from then!

{{hugs 2all!}}

See? It's always a great thing to keep stuff like this for a long long time, even 7.5 yrs later its providing valuable information AND encouragement to get on it baby!

Wow, this is all good info for those who have no idea where to start.
I am going to copy this into the Exercise section and sticky it there.
Bree, you sure are a wonderful fountain of knowledge and wisdom with all the years of experience to back everything up.

For anyone starting to workout I really recommend using a workout journal to take with you to the gym and writing everything you did down, weights/reps, what exercises and if you weigh at the gym then put in your weight too. It's SO helpful to look at way down the road.

I now have 4 workout journals full of the past 8 yrs work and they are extremely helpful to me right now as I am allowed to start working out again, but! with some pretty tricky restrictions. Anything that allows the shoulder to NOT be in line with the hip (ie: twisting motions) is not allowed, anything engaging the pelvic floor also not allowed. So mostly all UPPER BODY! What a challenge. I've had to go back and hit my own books LOL! to get some ideas of Back day, Arm day, Shoulders day, Chest day..interesting to look through them!

It's all fun though and I like the challenge of creating something for 4 days a week that will fit for me and get muscle back on me!
